Converting to frame based with Divx codec

Post by lemister »

I usually capture video from my analog TV tuner card in MPEG-2 DVD format, then edit and convert it to AVI files using ULEAD VStudio 10.0 encoding with Divx. Making sure that frame-based option is selected in Ulead--> video AVI tab, before hit OK button (I want the output file to be frame based).

Question:
Should I select the option "De-interlace source" in the Divx configuration box, in order to convert to frame based video; since source video is captured in MPEG-2 DVD Lower Field First?

This question comes to me because Divx configuration box gives you three options in source: "progressive source", "de-interlace source", and "preserve interlace". :!: :?:

Since you're wanting Frame based video (which is de-interlaced), select Frame based in the DivX codec configuration.

Yes!

If you're looking for the highest quality, consider using multi-pass encoding.

Also bear in mind that VS is compatible with Xvid, (open source freeware) which will give you even better quality for a given file size.

I also let the Divx encoder perform the de-interlacing.
So when creating a divx file I have the ulead software feed the divx encoder with either Upper or Lower Field.
Actually might be worth a try letting VS de-interlace the videos and setting the Divx encoder to progressive.

So if you select Frame_Based in the ulead parameters section then in the Divx encoder you would select Progressive.
