combine two projects while in editing phase?

Post by space cadet »

I have two separte projects gong and I'd like to add one to the end of the other to make them the same project. Is there any way to cut and paste an entire project and stick it onto another while reataining all the info... probably not, but thought I'd check.

The short answer is yes - but with qualification. You cannot import another project file (vsp) and add it to the one you already have. But - if you render the first project, and create a video file, then render the second project to a video file, you can easily start a new project and insert the two video files into the timeline. Rendering once more will give you the combination you want.

that's a good idea, thanks. Only downside is once you've rendered it you can't really edit it. I'll have to make sure I get everything perfect before I throw them both together.

Thanks again!

You most certainly CAN still edit it after you've rendered it - where did you get the idea you couldn't from, if you create .avi fles from your two existing projects and put them both back in the timeline you will be able to continue editing them.

Unless you included text and/or transitions between clips.

There is a better way to combine projects that accomplishes other good things as well. I do this for all my projects.

1) I limit the length of projects to 5-15 minutes each because a shorter project is easier to edit later. Think of each project as a "chapter."

2) Make an mpeg2 video file of each project.

3) Combine the video files in the SHARE/Create Disk phase using "Add Video." The top DVD Menu will show all chapters and each chapter can have its own submenu.

Any project can be edited and a new DVD can be made just by making a new video file of the modified project.
