PI X3 Won't Open-All Of The Sudden!!

Post by Buster88 »

Hi all! 8)

This would be my first post here! :D But, that's is not why I am writing today. My problem is this: yesterday I tried to use X3 after not using it for a month and a half. When I tried opening the program and nothing happened! I checked the Windows Task Manager and under the processes tab, it listed Iedit as running. I have uninstalled & reinstalled using both the simple and clean methods, used a registry cleaner-2 in fact. I even made sure to shut down my ZoneAlarm Pro, AVGFree Anti-Virus, and my Internet connection when I reinstalled. I'm at a huge loss here trying to figure out why PhotoImpact suddenly stopped working-and started giving me fits! :x :x

Any help from anyone in the know would be very much appreciated!

Have you changed your monitor setup recently? Is PI possibly opening its window off-screen where you cannot see it? Just a thought.

Sjj1805:

I apologize for taking so long to reply! I found out that it wasn't just PI X3 that was giving me fits-it was the whole computer! I had to finally give up and reformat my hard drive and start over. This time, PI was one the first programs I installed and it seems to be working fine now.

That aside, I do have a nagging query to throw your way and hopefully you can help me out. I have a JPEG that I got from a friend and he unintentionally ended up putting a watermark on it and now we can't figure out how to get it off. Would I be able to use X3 to remove that or do I have to try a different program?

Some image file formats are layered, other image formats are 'flat'
Examples of layered formats are
UFO - Ulead File for Objects
PSD - Adobe Photoshop
TIFF - Tagged Image File Format

Here you can have several items all stacked one on top of the other to form a picture. You can hide or erase these individual layers. If you had saved the picture on a layered format you would be able to remove the watermark layer.

Think of it like looking through a bottle. You could have layers as follows
Label (on the bottle)
The Bottle
The liquid inside the bottle
The background behind the bottle.

JPG is a flat file format - in other words it is just like a drawing on a sheet of paper.

The only resort you have is to paint it out in one of several ways.
Using Photoimpact I painted out various faults in this photograph using the method outlined here.

There are plenty of other methods, perhaps one of the easiest to use is the clone paintbrush where you copy adjoining areas and paste them on top of the item to be erased.

Steve:

Thanks loads for the info-I've been wondering about this for a long time now.
The tutorial you put together looks pretty interesting. I'm going to take a whack at it tomorrow (Thursday). If I need any more help, I know where to find you.

Cheers! :D
