I've just come back to video after spending five years in photography and I'd appreciate the forums advice on upgrading from Hi8 to digital. I haven't had the opportunity to try out a DV camcorder so I've no concept of any improvements in image and sound quality over Hi8. Technology must have moved on a pace in five years but is there a definite improvement in image and sound by going digital? I'd appreciate some advice.
Thanks
George

The quality is going to be much better with Digital. It provides crisper, clearer images with better colors. It is much easier to get the video onto your PC for editing, using a digital (MinDV or Digital-8 ) than with an analog camcorder.
