Videostudio 11 Plus stops capturing from camcorder

Post by alatar »

Today, I am experiencing a problem that I have not seen before. When I am capturing from a Sony Digital 8 Handycam, after about 15 or 20 seconds, the capture is halted and a dialog box with activity indicator appears saying: "Transcoding data.. Please Wait". When the "transcoding" is completed, the dialog box closes and the capture process is halted. I have a P4 processor, 2GB Ram and Windows XP SP2. Can anyone help with this??

Welcome to the forums,

Are you trying to capture to DV type 1 or Type 2, or perhaps MPEG-2? Are you capturing using Firewire (IEEE-1394, Sony's iLink) or some other device? The "transcoding" seems to indicate that you're trying to capture to MPEG format, and your PC just can not keep up.

What it appears is that your PC for whatever reason, is not able to keep up with the data stream from your camcorder. The buffer fills up, and then things go to stink after that. Generally it results in numerous dropped frames. However in your case it seems that it is loosing the signal altogether.

VS11 has a problem with trying to capture analog video. Most were fixed with the update patch. However one remains, the ability to capture using an analog tape inside a digital camcorder. It still refuses to allow this. VS would start capturing, then after about 8-10 secs, the capture would fail, VS will produce an error message about this, and delete the video.

Have you installed the update patches for VS? Have you also downloaded and installed the Upgrade, which is called a Power Pack? They can both be downloaded from the following link:
http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm. Do not worry about the Hot Fix unless you had the specific AVControl SDK problem.

Next you need to go to Microsoft's website and install the latest DirectX, which should be dated Nov 2007 or March 2008. For some reason this seems to cure a bunch of problems recently..
