"Stutters" in the picture quality during playback

Post by Scoota »

I recently burnt a DVD of primarily a slideshow which looked great. I then went and burnt another 8 copies for family members and have noticed a few "stutters" in the picture quality (kind off a picture freeze or shake) and occasionally a stutter in the audio. It may account for only a few seconds at different times over a 15 minute show (and at differnet times during each DVD) but frustrates me considerably. Any ideas............

Well, you don't tell us what you did, so how can we tell you what you did wrong? My first idea is that you possibly used inappropriate settings (too high a bitrate, wrong field order etc.)

Did you actually re-burn the project, or did you simply copy the DVD you had previously burned?

And what speed did you burn the copies at, using what speed blanks?

It does sound like this might be a burn quality issue.

The most important thing is to find blank media that suits your burner.

If you have a Lite-on, NEC, BenQ, Samsung or Plextor DVD burner, you might be able to run some write quality tests on the discs to confirm it.

Otherwise, with other makes of burner, you can still run a "transfer rate" test, with CD-DVD Speed, part of the Nero toolkit or available free from the Nero website. The test is found in the "Benchmark" tab. Running the test should produce a smooth line on the resulting graph - any sudden dips indicate a read problem.

I check the write quality on most of my burns, and can write to my favourite discs at 16x with great results.
