Freehand paintbrush lines are choppy? Picture attached

Post by SusanA »

Hi,

whenever I try to make freehand curves with the paintbrush, I get chopped lines. How do I make them smooth lines?

Here is a picture example of it below:

if the picture doesn't show up in here, here is the link: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e28/s ... linesq.gif

I am using PhotoImpact 10 SE that came with my Wacom Graphire Tablet... it has both Basic Mode and Standard Mode. The above picture was done in Standard Mode.

Thanks

What are the settings for "File" >"Preferences" >"PhotoImpact" >"Tools" >"Stroke Smoothness" ??

Default is Fair. Change it to Best and try again.

Hi Heinz,

the default is "best"... I tried playing around with it, but the result is the same. Here is a pic of the preferences:

I was wondering if others have the same problem?

(I use Dell Inspiron Windows XP with 2GB memory).

I can't say I do. I have tried all three machines that I have PI on, none show the symptoms you describe.

I don't have PI 10 installed anywhere anymore but doubt that it is to do with the version. Even the fact that we are dealing with an SE (SimpleEdition) version should not have an effect on that.

Do you use any special brush settings?

Interestingly, when I tried one of my machines which has the WACOM tablet connected and used the WACOM pen, drawing slowly did generate smooth curves but drawing quickly gave me a similar appearance of my lines.

Try drawing a curve slowly. Does that make a difference?

Hi Heinz,

thanks for the feedback. I tried drawing it at a medium to slow pace, which seems to clear up the chopped lines, but it seems my hand tremors as the slower pace as I get tremor lines...

I'd like to be able to draw at a normal pace instead of slowing myself down, the slower pace makes drawing harder.

The paintbrush settings are:

It looks like that might be something to do with my computer and tablet.

If you were in my shoes, what next step should I make?

thanks! :)

I'll investigate a bit more and come back to this.

If it is the Wacom tablet that shows chopped curves, does it mean it's part of the package, or is there a way that the programming of the Wacom tablet can be adjusted to make the curves smoother?
