WinDVD 9 Plus - a few observations about (most painful)

Post by Artur Rolinski »

Hallo and welcome everybody on this stunning forum.

I have a few observations about WinDVD 9 Plus (most painful)

1. Impossible to run trimension in mpeg2 DVB-S recorded content (*.mpg) even *.vob - but WinDVD8 can do that perfectly!!!

2. Slide control doesn't work in some *.mpg files - but WinDVD8 can do that perfectly too!!!

3. AVCHD rendering very, very poor compare to Nero Showtime or PowerDVD Ultra - I tried with nvidia Purevideo HD (9600GT) and Intel Clear video technology (G35) and without. You can't just watch it.

4. No format choose in right click menu (Pan and Scan) No real Pan and Scan function at all - only Zoom - but again WinDVD8 can do that perfectly!!!

5. It is not possible to change a displayed time (time to end).

6. Sometimes WinDVD9 doesnt recognize 4/3 format of *.mpg DVB-S content and displays it in 16/9 window (stretched) - WinDVD8 OK.

7. You have to set up Trimension included in ALL2HD function (screen) each time you restart an application even in the same title. WinDVD9 like ver.8 should remember this, its very annoying.

8. Its not a good idea to integrate scrooling buttons with chapter ones.

Besides in all DVDs the picture is stunning, very clear and very fluent. Good job. Perfect deinterlacing in all content. WinDVD8 not match.

Someone else posted about the slide control and so I did a check.
It works OK with videos - such as avi / MPEG2 etc
But it does not work with a Video DVD (VOBS). When you move the slider it simply bounces back to where it was before.

So that I can ascertain if this is a 'bug' can anyone confirm if the slider works correctly with VOB files on their system please.

Not a bug... I tried this with DVD Folders on my HDD, and with a commercial DVD. I can move the slider, and it advances and plays.

That was on my XP machine. I haven't installed it on my Vista machine yet.

It is a shame that Windvd 9 does not have a "widescreen monitor" option, that Windvd 6 had. "Stretch to 4/3" function cant help because using is makes impossible to run "all2hd". My plasma TV has 1024x768 resolution so stretching picture vertically is needed to make faces be not so fat, so I still use windvd6.

I agree! The fast forward / backward was easier to use in previous versions.

+ WinDVD 9 looks too much like Windows Media Player 11 anyway, have you noticed that? I must say that I like WinDVD 8 better than version 9

++ The slide control feature doesn't work in some dvds, if they are played from HDD directory. I think it worked better in WinDVD 8/7 too.

 :| :(

I haven't encountered this issue at all and I am playing most of the DVD content from hard drives.
