Introduction and opinions of VS -v- Windows Movie Maker

Post by BarumMike »

Newly registered and therefore intoducing myself.

Aiming to do some simple video editing of DV tapes from recent and past holidays, each project starting with 60 to 90 min material. Can I ask a heretical question? What are the advantages of VS over the Windows Vista version of Movie Maker for a low level user looking for a simple,, hassle free life?

What are the advantages of a Rolls-Royce over a bicycle? They can both get you from A to B, can't they? If you want to ride a bike, the WMM will do all you need. If you want to do it in comfort with many more possibilities and turn your video into an example of art, then the investment will make life easier for you.

I don't know about the Rolls Royce vs. bicycle analogy. Maybe Jaguar vs. bicycle.

wmm is terrible. That is all there is to say. Ulead is a good replacement, and it has its downs too.
I just got v11 to stop torturung my 10mbit mpeg2. The editor is fantastic..the ability to output to a real codec is a tragedy (I do not have the plus version). I am forced to use wmv, and that is the reason for buying an editor. I want nothing to do with wmv outputs again, unless it is a graphic I made (it does above average there, but not for intense mpeg2)
an inkling of more common sense by a great video editor and no more troubles for me (that I can see) They need to offer an mp4v and h264 with more options for output. It is not just a privelage to have either one or both. It is 2008 and a must have for many dv/dvd camcorders.

Different people have different needs and abilities, what may suit 1 person might not suit another.
Some people prefer Internet Explorer to Firefox
