Problem Rendering MPG-2 File for DVD

Post by toddyboy »

Greetings... I'm just starting with VS 11 plus and the first project that I'm testing to try to burn to DVD is resulting in a DVD video with ok sound, but the video comes out looking like a bunch of moving colored waves, kind of like a TV picture that you can't see because there's no antenna, if you can imagine that.

The file is a short MPG-2 that looks/plays fine when I add it to the timeline in VS. When I go through the process of creating a DVD (either burn to DVD or make a DVD folder on the computer hard drive), the program indicates that it was successfully created, but when I play it with Windows MP, it looks all garbled. I tried turning smart rendering off, which made no difference. I also used the step by step process described on this forum

I haven't tried any other file formats yet, as I will be starting with MPEG-2 files from the camcorder that I am planning to get. I've done a fair amount of editing before with some other programs, but know little about VS.

Can you folks guide me through a troubleshooting sequence, or better yet, tell me how to fix this? Very frustrating and I'm hoping it's something simple. Thanks for any help - Tod :?

What are your clip properties (from the library or timeline right click on one)?

What are your project properties (File>Project Properties)?

What are your output properties (from the burn window [Share>Create Disc] click on the gear icon in the lower left)?

Hmmm. All your properties look right on. You say you see the problem in WMP. Did you actually burn to disc and play it from a DVD player?

Jeff

Duhhh... I should have known better than to trust WMP - I hadn't tried it in a DVD player, and now I see, yes it does work. Just installed WinDVD and it works there too on the computer. What's up with media player - I've played plenty of commercial DVDs with it. Anyway, thanks for saving me a ton of time and grief - Really glad to find this forum - Tod

Just a guess, but judging from what I've seen of him in here for the past year and a half, he's pretty squirrely.
