create sd-dvd from hdtv-mpg w/ac3 5.1-getting audio dropouts

Post by a.parke »

i have a accessdtv hdtv capture card. it can capture the transport stream to the hard drive. i then process the transport stream with the latest version of hdtvtompeg to extract the mpeg stream of the desired program to use as input to vs11plus (with all updates).

after i add the mpeg to the timeline in vs11, i can push play and the clip plays with no problems. when i create a sd-dvd with 5.1 audio the converted data file and the resulting dvd has a severe audio problem. there will be a moment of sound followed by a moment of silence then another moment of sound and so forth. as far as i can tell, the audio that is there seems to be in sync with the video.

any idea on what i can do to resolve this issue? also is there any way to just force vs11 to just copy the existing ac3 stream rather than processing the original stream into a new stream.

fyi, i also used mpeg2repair to test my original stream, it indicates the source is not corrupted as well as the presence of ac3 5.1 audio. i am only using mpeg2repair to test the original source, i am not using the 'corrected' output for further processing.

also, in the past the station i am recording was only broadcasting dd2.0. i have not had any problems when dd2.0 was being used.

thanx

VS11+ does have a DVB-T or similar wording to work with the broadcast/captured High Def video files.
Look under the "Tools" Menu.

If you use it I would use only the raw source videos captured from the card, not other modified mpeg2 video files that have altered the original video first.

Play around with it, I haven't used the feature because I don't capture HD via a capture card.

thanx for your prompt reply, etech6355.

but your suggestion doesn't seem to help. when i use the option on the original transport stream, i get a 'failed' because of the data not being recognized. i pretty much expected this to fail.

when i use the option on the extracted mpeg file, it runs for a while and then tells me that the conversion was 'unnecessary' and no output is produced.

i have tried several things, but i am still not having any luck.

can someone recommend a tool to strip the 5.1 audio from my source and remux it back into a converted video without actually changing the audio stream.

thanx
