Create menu problems. VS11

Post by janjatul »

I have just four days left on my trial version of VS11 and want to finish my first VS 11 project in time. At the final stage I have two problems:

1/ During Create disk the menu preview won't work.

2/ I have 6 chapter points in my project but only 4 are displayed on the menu. How can I get all 6 chapter points on one page. Is it possible to get the on the main menu page or do they have to be on a sub menu?

As time is running out I am most grateful for any quick advice.

Thanks for helping out.
Jan

1. What is your workflow? Are you going from your project in the timeline straight to Create Disc? If so that sometimes causes problems. Try the suggested workflow of first going to Share>Create Video File to create a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file. Then clear the timeline, choose Share>Create Disc. When the burn window opens you insert your MPEG-2 file to the timeline.

2. Did you choose a menu template that allowed for more than 4 thumbnails? On the menu edit page there is a box you can uncheck to turn off the main menu page so only the sub-menu page(s) show.

Thanks Jeff,

I tried your workflow adding mpeg2:s to the create dvd screen.
Problem seems to start there. I can not display the video using the controls/wheel.
Doing the same in my VS10 works as you described.

Of course I can back down to VS10 but I wanted to try VS11. Maybe it is the trial version?

When you say "dvd compliant" mpeg2 is it enough to click on make mpeg2 or do I have to adjust any settings? (In make video file.)

Is there a tutorial on making dvd and dvd menus? I have always been rushing over this just to burn dvds to family members as I myself play the video files from my computer using my xbox as a media center.

Once again thanks for any feedback you can give me,
Jan

I still use v10+, so if that works and v11 doesn't I'm afraid I probably won't be much more help.

There is a tutorials section - see the link in my signature.

Well staying with VS10 may be the solution for me.
Thanks,

Jan,

Version 12 has recently been released in Japan, so I would think it will be available to the rest of us in another month or two. I would just stick with v10, then give v12 a test drive when it comes out.

You might also want to install the latest DirectX update from the Microsoft DirectX site. It is dated March 2008 and corrects the menu preview problem, at least in the full version of VS11 (don't know about the trial version). DirectX has to be updated manually by each user. It is not part of the regular Windows automatic updates.
