reinstalled Paint Shop now comes up then crashes

Post by kmartrsvp »

I reinstalled Paint Shop Pro because it was not working correctly. Now Paint Shop opens then closes down. It says that there is a problem and needs to close, but no explanation or error. I tried reinstalling again, but same thing. Even tried adding the patch, but no go. I have the boxed edition of the PSP X2. The first time I installed it, it worked, but with problems. Now I can't do anything. HELP!

So far I've not found this problem with PSP on my XP or Vista machines. I don't know if it could be a problem with your system, as the only thing we know is that you're running XP.

Try going to Microsoft's website and updating your DirectX to the current version, which is dated Nov 07, or March 2008. This seems to fix several problems related to photo and video programs.

You might also try exempting PSP from DEP (Date Execution Prevention). For instructions read the following thread: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... dep#143227

Has it ever worked correctly?
Try and think what happened in the time between it working correctly and becoming broken.

1. Has the computer been turned off at the power switch rather that the proper way of [Start] [Turn Off computer] - or had a sudden mains electricity power failure.
2. Installed or removed any hardware
3. Installed or removed any software.

Are you able to use Windows System Restore to turn the clock back to a point before it became broken.
Try working your way through Troubleshooting your computer

Thank you so much. I downloaded the DirectX and it worked. I also downloaded the patch, which I didn't know about and it fixed some of my problems with the program. One other question. In the lessons I am taking they wanted us to bring up a second version of Paint Shop to do a screen capture of the program. Mine won't do a second version, though my PSP 8 at work will. Any ideas?

Thanks again for your expertise.....and yes, my electricity did go out this morning, which may have caused a problem. Thanks to you both.

An easy way to do a screen capture of Paint Shop Pro is whilst you have on your screen whatever it is you want to capture - including Paint Shop Pro itself - is to press the [PrtSc] key on your computer keyboard.

Now in Paint Shop Pro paste as a new image.

I've had similar problems with PSP. In order to fully uninstall the program Corel provides an uninstaller program. This took care of my problems.

I didn't know about that, I just went through the regular way. Thank you, I will check into it if I have a problem again.
