Blank Screen with AVI Playback...?

Post by Mark Out »

I'm currently editing footage for a project using AVI video files. The problem is that when I hit play to preview my work thus far, all I'm getting is a blank (black) screen. The audio can be heard perfectly but the video cannot be seen.

Previewing the AVI files as thumbnails works fine, the video and audio is perfectly intact. It's just whenI get them into the timeline.

I do have the DivX converter downloaded and it's in use.

As a side not, whenever I playback AVI files using my Windows Media Player it has the same effect: Plays audio but no video.

Any ideas? I'm working on a wedding DVD and my deadline is approaching!!!

!
are you using windows vista? it's look like not correct video codec, you need to download video codec pack, you can find by using search engine (google)..

DO NOT download and install some "everything but the kitchen sink" codec pack.
This is the cause of many problems reported on this forum.

There are numerous different file types that come under the heading of avi.
Within VS right click on the offending file and report the properteis back here so we can see what you have.

In VS go to FILE / PREFERENCES / and select the GENERAL Tab.

Look down the list to "Instant Playback Target." Select "Preview Window."

Try that.
