Which one do I need??

Post by Pappy44 »

All I need is something that will convert mpg and wmv's to DVD movie format so they can be played on a portable dvd player (haven't purchased one yet).

I've looked at what is offered and got totally confused. I'll order whatever it takes, but don't see much need for buying other features that I would never use.

I did just recently buy/install paintshop pro photo x2, so if I can find a mentioned converter I think I'll be set. Haven't really got into it yet. whole new system.

Thanks. Lee.

Movie Factory may be exactly what you need! (You need a DVD Authoring Program.)

However, I strongly recommend that you download the trial version before you buy. Format conversion can be "difficult", and you need to make sure it can convert your particular files. WMV causes trouble for some Movie Factory users. If your MPG files are dvd-compatible MPEG-2*, Movie Factory can make a DVD without converting them. But if they are MPEG-4, you'll need try-out Movie Factory to make sure it can handle them...

When I have a "problem file", I usually convert it to MPEG-2 with SUPER (FREE!!!). Another FREE program that claims to convert almost anything to MPEG-2 is SVCD 2 DVD MPG. Note that neither of these programs will create a video-DVD, but they can convert the video to the proper underlying MPEG-2 format.

* The VOB files on a DVD are in MPEG-2 format with some particular constraints on the format.
