Hello: I am having problems with VideoStudio Plus 11.5.
I'm trying to import video footage from my miniDVD-RW disk to VideoStudio. This footage was shot on a DVD camcorder
My problems are with the "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" function in the "Insert Media File to Library" section. I get a series of error messages.
When I select the Title and Chapters that I want to import from the miniDVD-RW disk, I get the message INVALID PARAMETER.
Then, I get the message: FAILED TO GET DVD DISK STREAM READER. REPORT ID: 0X80040911 (2321).
Then the program asks me: DO YOU WANT TO CLOSE IMPORT DVD AND SAVE ALL ALREADY IMPORTED TEMP FILE?
When I click, yes, the Import DVD function closes, and I am back to the regular VideoStudio menu.
How can I import footage from my miniDVD-RW disk to this program?
My specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium
3 GB RAM
200 GB free hard disk space
NVidia GeForce 7350 LE video card
HP Media Center m8120n computer
2.4Ghz Intel Quad Core cpu.
I am using FujiFilm 1.4GB DVD-RW miniDVD discs. I have tried discs that have been formatted as both VF and VR.
My camera is a Hitachi DVD camcorder.

Are you trying to import the disc while it is still in the camcorder or are you placing it in the DVD tray of your computer.
If placing in the DVD tray are the discs finalised?
Did the cam come with software?
Can you you import the files using that?
Can you simply copy the VIDEO_TS (or VR equivalent) folder across to your hard drive then import from there?

How to convert VOB format files?
I am placing the miniDVD-RW disks in the DVD tray of my computer. And I finalised these disks also.lancecarr wrote:Are you trying to import the disc while it is still in the camcorder or are you placing it in the DVD tray of your computer.

The camcorder did not come with software.
I copied the VIDEO_TS folder to my hard drive and tried to import it, but I still get the same aforementioned error messages, when I press the "Import DVD Folder" button in the "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" function.
I also tried to import individual video files from this VIDEO_TS folder by using the "Insert Video" function. But I get the following message:
"Unable to open file. File Format Mismatch."
It appears that my footage files are VOB format, and VideoStudio can't read them.
Does anybody know how to convert VOB files to a readable format like MPG? Can I just type "mpg" at the end of a file?

As a last ditch attempt you can try renaming to .mpg and see what happens.
The .vob extension is standard for dvd. It stands for Video OBject file. It is a wrapper extension that is placed around the individual mpegs as part of the DVD standard.
I am running on memory here because I haven;'t dealt with that particular problem for a few years now.

Yes, I can play the VOB files copied to my hard drive by using Windows Media player.2Dogs wrote:Can you play the VOB files that you copied to your hard drive with Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic? If you copy the whole disc, can you play it with a software DVD player such as WinDVD, or Windows Media Player?
By copying the whole disk, you mean just dragging all the video files to my hard drive? I already have done this.
The main thing is that VideoStudio cannot import these video files, and I thus can't use/edit them for my project.
I tried renaming these files to .mpg, but that didn't help.
I mean all the files in their various folders, onto your hard drive in a folder with a suitable name. VS has to see the whole disk. If you just had the VOB files, and they weren't in a folder entitled VIDEO_TS, along with another folder for a DVD-VR disc called VIDEO_RM, VS would not see the files as being a "disc" from which it could import. Even though there's no encryption involved, it might be easiest for you to use DVD Decrypter to "rip" your disc to the had drive, since it will be a "one-click" process, with the advantage that Decrypter has a built in feature that attempts recovery of any disc errors.aza wrote:By copying the whole disk, you mean just dragging all the video files to my hard drive? Just make sure that however you get the files onto your hard drive, you see a folder structure in My Computer or Windows Explorer that matches that seen on the disc in your DVD drive.aza wrote:The main thing is that VideoStudio cannot import these video files, and I thus can't use/edit them for my project.
That's a bit odd. It's not the recommended way to do it, but it usually works to a degree.aza wrote:I tried renaming these files to .mpg, but that didn't help.

Import DVD - Invalid Parameter
I have tried it too, importing both from my DVD and DVD-VR discs. I also get the Invalid Parameter error and then it closes. It works with other DVD to MPG (ripping) software (eg. ImTOO, iSofter) but not with Videostudio 11.5 plus. I purchase Videostudio just to do that - to do everything I require: importing, editing and then authoring videos... now the importing does not work. I really need it, why does it not work and isn't there a patch or fix or something?

I know you say you bought VS to do everything, but many users on this forum use various apps to do different jobs.
Some use a special app to capture, edit with VS, then use another app to author their DVD.
The real strength of VS is the editing. It definately has some weaknesses in other areas. That's not to say your capturing shouldn't work for you - it should. I'm just saying if you can capture using something else don't tear your hair out trying to get VS to capture. Capture with the other app then import into VS for editing.
