I am editing old video film that has been placed on the hard drive. The quality of the image is very good but I have some concerns with the sound quality. There is a lot of hum that comes from the camera also clicks from the auto focus and worst of all wind noise.
I have tried to use the audio filter to remove noise and hiss but cannot get it to work despite following the instructions in the help file for "Applying Audio Filters".
I am able to alter the clip volume but the audio filter dialogue box does not appear. Although I did chance on it once but have not been able to access it again.

This sort of action is a bit beyond most video editing software including VS.
If you load an offending clip into the timeline then go to the Share tab and choose Create Sound file it will make a wav file for you.
Then google for Audacity which is a free and very powerful audio software.
Load the file into Audacity and try as best you can to reduce the unwanted noises, it will give you more control but don't expect miracles!
Then load the newly cleaned sound file back into the timeline with the old video file. Mute the video file and render to a new file.

Thank you Lance - I have completed the process reasonably well and hope that the background music covers up some of the remaining noise.
I would still like to be able to master the audio filter in videostudio so any suggestions as to how I can access it would be appreciated.

Load the clip into the timeline then select "Split Audio." The filters only work in the audio tracks.
Once you do that the "Audio Filter" button becomes active then you can apply.
