Won't capture

Post by tltony »

I was watching a DV through the capture mode. When I fast forwarded the tape for a few seconds, the computer just shut down and rebooted. Now it won't capture. It gives the same screen as it does when you have nothing hooked up. Ideas please.

What video camera are you using? What OS? I have heard this on some Cannon Video cameras.

Firewire? USB? Analog card?

If I hook up a USB the video program sees the camara OK, but the quality is poor. When the failure occured, It was hooked up with a fire wire. The fire wire option has not worked since. I think it's a hardware problem because the computer actually made a small pop when it crashed.

USB captures are usually limited to webcam resolutions by hardware restrictions.

I'd check the Device Manager (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager) to see if the IEEE 1394 host controller is still listed as functional.
