Three questions about VS9.

Post by Keith C »

Hi,

I have ordered the upgrade boxed version of VS9. At the moment I have VS8 and thanks to the tips on this board I have never had any problems using it.

1. Should I uninstall UVS8 as Ulead recommend before I install the upgrade or does the upgrade need to "see" VS8 to install properly?

2. Will I have to relink all my clips in the capture folder (groan!) or will VS9 find them automatically?

3. Should I uninstall VS8 after a (hopefully) successful install of VS9

Any other useful install tips gratefully received.

Many Thanks

See http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... highlight=

When you uninstall VS8, users have said that it removes some files required by VS9, but running "Repair" on the VS9 installer will make things right. IMHO, I'm going to keep both operative for some time.

Many thanks for the swift response and link JC. When you installed VS9 were all your existing clips found? I don't think I can bear to manually re-link all my clips as it will take hours. This is of great concern to me.

Greetings:
I downloaded the ugrade from VS 8 to VS 9...you must have VS 8 to install VS 9...but after you install VS 9 upgrade I unloaded VS 8. I also had to reload my additional transitions I purchased (Boris etc.).

Keith,
If you follow the link and read it, you will find out how to transfer your VS8 library to VS9.

Keith C --

Why worry when you are keeping VS8 in any case? If VS9 won't automatically relink your clips, forget it till you start a new video project. Do the job in VS8. I believe you can keep both versions in working order on your computer at the same time. That's what I remember from the VS6-VS7 switch.

Try this and see how it works:

1) Open VS8.
2) Locate all your thumbnails in the library.
3) Click on the first one, shift-click on the last, so they are all highlighted.
4) Right-click - COPY.
5) Open VS9.
6) In the library pane, Right-click - PASTE.
7) If you have several custom subsections in the library, repeat for each one.

Hope that helps.

Ron,
Your method sure doesn't work in my computer.

Sorry about that. I have done it within the same version; haven't been able to try across versions yet. Thought it sounded reasonable.

John:
When I did my upgrade it did not automatically relink them...so yes, you will have to do that...but all in all pretty easy really...I know it can be somewhat of a burden...but to me worth the few minutes it will take...I usually keep all of my clips in one folder, and in that folder organized into multiple folders for easy retrieval...same with images...so not to bad.

Dave,
Yes, it is easy to relink any project in VS9. I have done several.

However, Keith apparantly has structured his Library with custom folders that may be loaded with lots of clips and slides. The VS9 Library is (still!) pretty clunky at relinking "en masse", preferring, instead, to force the user to relink one-at-a-time.

One solution is to copy VS_Video.dat, VS_Image.dat, and maybe VS_Audio.dat from VS8 to VS9 as described in my earlier post.
