I move a clip on the timeline and, even with ripple off, it snaps shut
of course this will throw off any audio that's in sync with the rest of the timeline
how to keep it from closing gaps?
thx

When you turn ripple editing "on" you then also have to click on the tracks you want to include with the ripple editing. You do this by also clicking on the symbols for each track and they should change colour to yellow/orange.
On the video track though, VS automatically trunkates to the left (towards zero) and there is nthing you can do to stop this.
This means that if Ripple editing is turned on (with all the tracks) and you pull out a clip in the Video track you will get a message that VS will also delete connected clips (audio and overlay) OR that that the operation cannot proceed.
It's a bit of flaw with VS but for me the way around this is to choose a track (usually the Music track) or a track that will require the least amount of work re-syncing in order to give Ripple editing room to move to the left.
I hope I explained that clearly..it's kinda a little complicated to write rather then actually show.

Yeah..It's a bit of a pain but I try and avoid those situations by making very sure I'm happy with the main track (and overlays) before laying down the titles and music...zoobie wrote:that's what I thought
good explaination
except I don't like it's behavior
thx
A bit of planning helps a lot.
and i never preview my work LOL! Little changes are always suggested and of course..at the most difficult bits of the video.
