Help Needed How Do I Change the Background to a solid ...

Post by Ineedtoknow »

HI Everybody

My question is not covered in the user guide nor the Help files for the product and I dont see anyone has addressed it here ...

Running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I have Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 and I want to know how do I completely change the background in a picture ...
To be more specific , I am not talking about using the background eraser tool ... there is a big difference , what I am trying to do is Isolate the person in the picture and completley remove the current background in the picture and change the background to white or another solid color but will probably use a white background .

The digital photo was taken inside of the home and I donot like all the furniture etc , that is in the background so I want to keep the person in the picture but change the actual background to a solid color .

Please Advise.

Thanks for any input / advice . :?:

Thank you and I will / can put the info you've provided to use at some point , However, this is not quite what I was talking about ...
The info provided is geared towards taking a graphic from one picture and putting it into another with a different background ...
and Again I say Thanks , great info and I will/can put that to use at some point ...
What I am speaking of is being able to ... within the same image change the background to a solid color ... I know that this capability is possible and is out there because I have used it once , I cannot remember what software / program it was .. this was years back ... maybe 7 or 8 ... I actually think it was something like Adobe photo deluxe (now that gives an Idea of how long ago that was ) ... the software belonged to a friend and I was using his puter and who is no longer around so I cannot ask him what it was and I'm not even sure that it was the adobe thingy , coulda been something else.
I am using PSP PhotoX2 and with all the capabilities this has it should be able to do this too especially since I see that background eraser tool , However, that tool does not serve this particular pupose and so far as I can tell the actual background changing tool is not within the program or maybe I am over-looking something ... Hopefully someone who has PSP Photo X2 can tell me for sure .

With what I used awhile back ( that I cannot remember what it was ) ... I was able to isolate ( use that Jagged line tool ) to isolate that in the picture I wanted to keep and I clicked on change background and the entire background on that picture disappeared and then it offered you choices of whether you wanted to use a soild color etc ..., this is what I am trying to do .

Any Idea's ????

There are perhaps a dozen ways to do it.
Here is another...
Remove Photo Backgrounds with the Background Eraser

Try creating a selection using either the Lasso tool, or the Object Remover tool. Once you have the object you want to keep selected, go to Selection>Invert.

Now the background is the selection, so go to the Edit menu and choose Clear. You can then fill the background with solid or gradiant color, textures, or copy/paste another image into the background.

To isolate the figure, you can go ahead and use the Background Eraser. Then the only thing left to do is to add the new background, and here's one way to do that:

1. Add a new raster layer above the layer containing the isolated figure.

2. Fill the new layer with the color you want, using the Flood fill tool.

3. In the Layer palette, drag the layer button for the solid-colored layer below the layer button for the layer that contains the isolated figure.

That should do it. :)

Lori

P.S. You can also do the same sort of thing if you isolate the figure by using a mask. In that case, add the new layer above the layer group that contains the mask and the figure layer, fill with a color, then drag the layer group above the solid-colored layer.
