DVD won't play on set top DVD player.

Post by wstagner »

Can any 1 point me to a thread for this subject?
I've searched for DVD won't play in set top box, DVD won't play, etc. and I get thousands of hits on a search.

I have Video Studio 10+ and the first DVD I burned with all the defaults played in my Philips DVD player just fine. I then changed the default sound clip and nothing else to my knowledge. I've since created 10 other DVDs of the same clip. They all play on my Sony DVD burner just fine.

I've no problem playing commercial DVD or DVD made by other people on my Philips. What can possibly be wrong? I'm using Imation DVD+R blanks and the software tells me it's burning at 3x.

Anyone have any ideas or if this info is in another thread, please move this post to that thread and direct me to it.

Thanks,
Walt

Were these also made with DVD+R blanks? You might try a DVD-R...

You might also try making a copy of one of your previous working discs. If the copy doesn't play, then your player (or burner) is having trouble with this batch of discs.
I then changed the default sound clip and nothing else to my knowledge. I've since created 10 other DVDs of the same clip. They all play on my Sony DVD burner just fine.
If none of the above helps, tell us what file formats you are using and where the files came from. ...File format-conversion problems are common, but usually Video Studio will warn you (or fail) before the actual DVD gets burned.

From what you've told us, I doubt there is a physical problem with the DVD or the "burn". (I suspect it's a data problem). But just to make sure, Nero CD-DVD Speed (FREE!!!) can usually tell you if you have a physical problem. Another quick-test is to drag the VIDEO_TS folder to a temporary folder on your hard drive. If you get an error, the drive is having trouble reading the data. (The player-software can correct or hide some errors... The fact that a DVD plays, does not mean all of the data is getting read correctly.)

Thanks for the quick reply. File is a 19 minute video file captured from my mini DV camcorder. I'll check that other thread too.

Another piece of info....after the screen says LOADING, it then displays MP3-JPEG and starts counting down a bunch of numbers, as if it's going to load up a bunch of mp3 files or jpegs.

VERY odd.
