EDIT: Alan -- I was writing the following, and found you latest post when I posted it!
Sorry, but that is just not correct. The upgrade does NOT install over the top of the previous version. It is a separate and full install, and you can have -- as I had on my old XP computer at one stage -- my original full install of VS 7, the upgrade to VS8, the upgrade to VS 9, the upgrade to VS10+ and the upgrade to VS11+. And they could all open as full programs. FYI, at the time, I kept them all in order to be able to answer questions here. That possibility is now limited to VS10+ and VS11.5+ on the same computer because it uses Vista. But I repeat, both are upgrade versions, and both open quite separately. Indeed, I have found that I edit my HDV video in VS11.5+ but I still have to use VS10+ to export that edited HDV back to my high def camera.

Compare with earlier versions of VS
It is surprising to see VS12 does have blueray disc burning and HD DVD disc

Sorry, we must be looking at different comparison tables. The one I got by using that link has no X's in the VS12 column. And the only reference to Blu-Ray I can find is in the intriguing reference in the Capture section: "BD KAMERAINPOTO". But I would find it breathtakingly unbelievable if Corel were to have dropped the wave of the future in DVD editing and burning from its latest version when it has already existed in two previous versions.

There are 2 comparison tables one which compare vs12 with earlier versions of videostudio http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en ... mpare1.htm takes you to the one that has x'x where it says you can create a blu-ray disk and HD DVD diskKen Berry wrote:Sorry, we must be looking at different comparison tables. The 2nd url http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en ... mpare2.htm compares the VS12 with other products and it has 0's under hdv suport and bd kamerainpoto.
You can also get to the different versions under Product information when you are on the site on the left side by clicking on -"old version comparison chart " or "Other products and comparison tables"
I too doubt that they would remove this feature unless they didn't want to pay Sony some type of licensing fee.

Sorry. I never looked closely enough at the links to see they were different. But now I see what you mean. Very troubling if true, and for an increasing number of users, it would make the program useless if it did not in fact have a Blu-Ray burning capacity... It would not be a licensing issue unless Sony is trying to corner the market for Vegas/Movie Studio Pro and wants to charge ridiculous and commercially unacceptable high fees. After all, Corel and everyone else has to pay Dolby for the honour of including that in their packages.
I also wonder what 'HD Rec' means... It says only VS12 has it, which suggests it is different from 'HDV Recording' i.e. export of edited HDV back to the camera (which otherwise is not mentioned). Either it is something else, or else it is wrong since it says VS11+, 11 and 10+ do not have it -- yet at least as far as I am aware both VS10+ and 11.5+ could do this: VS11.5+ for HDV cameras other than Canon, and VS10+ for all cameras including the Canons as long as it was patched with the Canon update patch.
I also note that it has a Smart Proxy Manager (the delightfully spelled 'SUMATOPUROKISHIFAIRUMANEJA'!!!
) which might be increasingly handy as more people buy AVCHD cameras but still don't have sufficiently powerful computers to match.
It also has 5 more HD menu templates (HAIBIJONMENYUTENPURETO) than the current 6 in VS11.5+ -- though of course Steve Jones (sjj1805) has adjusted, and made available, existing templates in other categories to be also usable with high def discs.
It will be interesting to see what 'high speed rendering' means in practice.
And I confess I am looking forward to have the Painting Creator (PEINTINGUKURIETA) -- potentially one of the more significant additions.
