Hello,
I have a TV tuner USB device for my laptop. It comes with its own software for recording hi-def programs to the hard drive. Unfortunately, these files don't work well with VS 11+.
I have tried using VS11+ capture with the TV tuner, and it produces usable mpg files, but it is very inconsistent in tuning in digital channels. For digital channels, you must scan channels every time you use the tuner. However, I scan once, it gets 10 channels, I scan again, I get 13 channels (skipping some, adding some others), every time it picks up a different set of channels. I don't do a thing different (move antenna, etc), it just picks up differently each time. Is there some solution to this problem? My own solution so far is to scan repeatedly until the channel I want shows up.
This does not happen with the device's own software, it picks up every channel.

First, can you tell us the name of your TV device and the exact format it captures in. (I have a DVico Fusion high def TV card, for instance, which by default captures to .ps format which VS also cannot use. So I then use another program called HDV2MPEG2 to convert it to a format VS can use.)
In any case, we normally tell people to capture from such devices with the software which came with it. This is usually designed, or tweaked, to work well with the hardware. Unfortunately, VS does not work consistently well with all capture cards.

It is a hauppage WinTV USB TV tuner, and comes with WinTV2000 software to view TV and record TV.
Digital channels are captured in native format and have a *.mpg file name. These files have been viewable with the WinTV software, somewhat inconsistently with windows media viewer.
when such files are opened with VS11+, they do not run properly, when you push the play buttons nothing happens. When you scroll through the video, you see frames of the video flash by. I have assumed that they won't work with VS11+.
When I am lucky and get the right channel and capture through VS11+, then the files behave completely normal, editable, sharable. I was hoping to tweak the tuning capability of VS11+ so that I can use VS11+ to capture video.
I have heard that the WinTV2000 software is not great, people have better luck recording digital TV with Windows Media Center (which I do not have).
