DVD Moviefactory SE

Hi All,

I have just bought my first camcorder, a Canon HG-10, but am making no progress at all with trying to edit my footage on the Corel Moviefactory SE supplied with the camera...the instruction book seems to assume a lot of prior knowledge about editing etc.

Also my friend who has a professional editing suite is unable to read the MPEG 4.H264 format from the Canon HG-10.

Are there courses available for Moviefactory SE?

Any suggestions as to helpng my friend to read my material?

I can't help you directly, but there are a couple of other posts about the HG10... Try searching for "HG10" (without the hyphen), and maybe you'll find something helpful.

I'm a little surprised that Canon would supply software that doesn't work with the hardware. But, the whole digital video situation is very chaotic... There are just too many different formats, too many "new" formats, and too many variations of every format. A standard-definition camera that records to MiniDV tape, transferred to an AVI/DV file still seems to be the most rock-solid solution...

That does not surprise me. Professionals edit before compression.

Seems like this is an aspect of my purchase that I should have investigated further!

Is it possible that I can "uncompress" the footage that I have already taken on the HG10, so that I can work on other programs?

I wasn't meaning to say that the supplied software doesn't work, only that so far after several attempts - it has me beaten!
