Capturing Video - all seems well then - "capturing fail

Hi
capturing using plextor convertX with Vista and VS11+

all seems well - full preview in Video studio window - sound etc all good.
I press capture video - preview pauses but video is recording.
press- stop recording and up pops a window
"capturing failed. The file created is corrup and unreadable it will be automatically deleted"

could anyone give me a pointer to where I might be going wrong?

It would help if you read the PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING... thread at the top of the board, doing what it says and then telling us what settings/preferences you are using. Are the Plextor drivers Vista compatible? To where are you capturing?

There is a known bug in the new capture plug-in used in VS11 which essentially makes it difficult to capture analogue source material using a device such as yours (or a mini DV camera being used as a passthrough device, using its firewire connection; or a Sony Digital 8 camera actually playing back an analogue 8mm or Hi8 tape, or being used as a passthrough device...) The passthrough problem was corrected with the update patch of 6 November 2007 available on the Ulead site. But others are reporting that it has not cured the problem for some of the external DV capture devices such as yours (and I know for a fact it has not cured the digital 8 playing analogue tapes problem). So you might want at least to download the 6 November patch and see if it works with your device. It would be useful to us if you told us what happens when you have done so...
