Adding text objects to MF6+ menus

Post by hikent »

Hi,

I'd like to add some text to a DVD menu and save it as a template. Examples of the text could be "Created on xxx" or "Season 2 Episode 4", etc.

I can't find any buttons or info in the manual on adding objects.

How is it done?

Thanks. Kent

Two ways to do this:

Method 1 (easiest)
Create a background image with that information and use it as the DVD background.

Method 2 (more complex)
Create a purpose built DVD Menu from scratch with PhotoImpact

I think that the PhotoImpact route is the one I want. I want to create a series of disks from one template.

Is this software included in the MF6+ distribution? I don't seem to see it in my start menu.

No, PhotoImpact is a separate program/purchase.

Is it possible to use Photoshop? I think if I have to learn one more photo-editing program, my head will explode.

Limited Success

Hi,

Sorry it took me a while to get fully set up, but I downloaded the trial PhotoImpact X3 & gave it a go with your instructions.

I was able to make some progress: I can take the HD_BASIC01 template, add a text object, move it to "MF6/Favorites", have it show up in my gallery, and select it. The text object I added is there.

However, when I right click on the text, "edit" is grey'd out. "Title" I can edit, but not my new object with name "EPISODE".

How do I make a text object editable in the authoring program?

Thanks. Kent

With additional experimentation, I have found that if I edit the name property of my new text to "TITLE_1" (and remove the real TITLE_1 property), I can now edit my new text!

So what are the valid name properties that can be edited by the authoring program?

Text relates to the words that appear below a thumbnail, or the text (link) itself in a text only menu. These are only editable if the item 'exists' on the menu.

To make that a bit more clear, suppose you have a video (title) with 4 chapters. You decide to select a thumbnail menu with up to 6 thumbnails.
Only the first 4 will be displayed, the other 2 will be discarded. Here you would be able to select and edit the text belonging to each of the 4 visible thumbnails.

A title is as it is named a title. There is only 1 on a menu, and it will always be editable.

Are there any other "elements" that are editable? For instance "SUBTITLE"? I tried "TITLE_2" but no luck.

Also, I tried to find the "NAMING GUIDE" on you website, but without luck.

Thanks again for all your help.

The easiest thing to do is to use the DVD Menu Wizard
