Looks like surveilance video

Post by borkboing »

Just installed on XP, Athlon 2400 with 2 gb ram, 7130 TV Tuner Card brand-new.

The system does not pick up all channels. Some channels look like communications from the mothman. Other channels look like poor quality surveilance footage. Only a few have color, and those generally have ok (circa 1974) picture quality.

Anybody out there have a helpful suggestion? :?:

Try a better aerial, maybe? Better tuner card?

What sort of aerial are you using?
I recently bought a couple of USB TV dongles - about the size of a USB flash drive / memory stick. and they both came with a little aerial.

Plugging in a proper roof aerial made the world of difference.

Hi Heinz and SJ

I am using the coaxial cable straight from the wall. Any tv in our house can use it, even old ones can at least get good picture quality from the first 13 channels.

I thought I got a good stick/card...

Either the TV stick is broken or your TV software does not like the TV stick you have.
Try downloading a copy of BlazeDTV - it is fairly cheap to buy.
I recently bought two different makes of USB Digital TV dongles - both priced the same. One had BlazeTV and the other had different TV software - not at home right now so cannot remember the name.

BlazeDTV was far superior to the other one and works with both USB TV sticks. It also lets you record the TV so you can drop it into VideoStudio / MovieFactory etc.

You can also try Intervideo Home Theater or InterVideo WinDVR 3

Home Theater looks and behaves rather like Windows Media Centre but I couldn't get my USB sticks to work with it, but I can't grumble as they only cost £10 each!!

I dont (think) I have WinDVR so couldn't comment on that one.

I should have stated from the outset that I WinDVR3.

I will download BlazeDTV tomorrow and let you know (it's 1:30 am here, I always work late).

Kind regards,
J
