Hi etech6355
Thanks for giving me the breakdown of the PS3's capabilities. I will certainly consider it but, since I'm not a game player, I think it would be a quite expansive way to go.
In the past I have been using Video Studio 8 for my editing work so I'm quite familiar with it. I don't think there will be such a major difference between 8 and 11+ so I should get on reasonably well with it.
From your answer, I'll take it that I'll be able to keep the 1440x1080 res after rendering .... but what choice of file format will I have?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of buying a wireless streamer (pc to tv) and so far, I don't think they haven't made one that streams mts files. Some streams some files some streams others. In order to buy one I like I then would like to know the options given by VS11+. Sorry for rumbling on a bit.
Thanks again

Getting AVCHD files from SR1 into Ulead VS
Here are the steps I use to get my SR1 files into Ulead - seems to work reliably - - -
GETTING AVCHD FILES TO SHOW UP IN ULEAD:
===============================
Procedure:
1) Plug in the camera and choose the first option on the top left of the HDD menu.
2) When the Sony capture software (that came with the SR1) starts up on the computer, cancel out of it. Here's the directory structure to copy over to the computer (other stuff not needed):
\AVCHD
\AVCHD\BDMV\INDEX.BDM
\AVCHD\BDMV\MOVIEOBJ.BDM
\AVCHD\BDMV\CLIPINF\*.CPI
\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM\*.MTS
(The CPI files should match the MTS files.)
3) Open VS11+, press the Capture Tab, then select "Import From DVD/DVD-VR" button.
4) Then another box opens: select "Import DVD Folder" and navigate to the dummy AVCHD folder. Then click the OK button.
5) Another dialog box opens, and you can preview the video files but the Import button is disabled until you click on the checkbox to the left of the desired video files.
6) Then click the "Import" button.
7) VS brings in the video files in Mpeg2 HDV Transport stream (m2t extension, unnecessary baggage for editing) and places it in the Library.
Select VS11's EDIT tab and drag the clips into the timeline for editing.
9) As of late 2007, VS11 does not offer to set the Project Properties to match the video file properties! (This is a bug that should be fixed ASAP.) Manually set Project Properties to Mpeg2, 1440x1080i (Upper Field First), VBR 18Mbps.
10) Working and playback in EDIT mode is poor without PROXY editing (see notes below): lots of dropped frames, mangled A/V sync, halting video, etc. So proxy editing mode is highly recommended.

Same problem observed here.
What broke it?
