Hi there,
I've just downloaded the trial version of 11 Plus to test it with AVCHD files but I don't seem to be able to import them in the timeline.
I've noticed there's a patch available so I've downlaoaded it but when I try to install it keep saying can't see 11 plus in my machine. Is that because I've got the trial version installed and not the full version?
Prior to buying 11 Plus, I'd really like to test it by importing either m2ts or mts files to see how it copes. Does anyone out there know a way around?
Any help would be much appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

Corel Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus works for me when it comes to my AVCHD camcorder, which is a Sony HDR-UX1.
Is there something specific you wish to know?
It's pretty easy for me to capture.
Just click the Capture tab and then "Import From DVD/DVD-VR or AVCHD."
My camcorder records AVCHD to mini 8cm DVDs.
So I just put those little discs into my drive for capture.
Hope this helps,
Jerry Jones

Hi Jerry
Thanks for your reply. I have a Sony SR1 and when I locate the files in my camcorder and click on the import/ok button the program start to import and one second later the whole thing disappear. I mean 11 Plus shuts down completely.
I read elsewhere in the net that other people had this problem and that Ulead eventually came up with this patch. Unfortunately it doesn't let me install it for some reason. Maybe because I'm running a trial version?
I'll take it you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't have this extemely annoying glitch. Lucky you!

There's one more thing you should try before you give up.
Copy the AVCHD directory from your Sony camcorder's hard disk to your computer's hard disk.
Then, when you use Corel Ulead VideoStudio 11 trial to attempt the capture, you should browse to the location of the copied files on your computer's hard disk.
Then see if you get the same crash.
What I've learned is that it is sometimes necessary to copy entire directories from these newer disk/memory card camcorders to one's computer hard disk.
That is sometimes a required procedure even on the Apple platform.
For example, Apple Final Cut Express 4 will only capture from my HDR-UX1's 8cm DVDs after I copy the contents of the disc to my computer's hard drive.
For whatever reason, Apple Final Cut Express 4 doesn't like to capture directly from the 8cm DVD while the disc is in my external drive.
Apple iMovie '08 -- on the other hand -- has no such requirement and happily captures directly from the disc.
With Ulead on Windows, I've noted that I need to copy the contents of my Panasonic SDR-S10 SD memory cards to my hard disk *prior* to attempting capture with Corel Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus.
Don't ask me to explain why this is necessary. I do not have the answer.
Good luck.

I too have an SR1E, good videocam in my view.Assuming you like the camera why abandon it in favor of a mini DV camera. You could convert the AVCHD recording to Mpeg-2 using the supplied Sony software that would have come with your camera and find out if you like VS11+.
There are several other tools mentioned on the board that will enable you to convert the AVCHD to mpeg or AVI for editing purposes.
That way you will still have the facility to record in HD on the HDD. I am not sure that it is a question of if VS11+ copes with AVCHD there are users on this board that will vouch for that but whether your computer has the specification to edit AVCHD whichever editing software you use.
The SR1 also records in SD should that be something you want to consider so you can check out VS11+ before you commit to buying.

Paul

Well, I've tried to recreate the tree folder in my HD and tried to import the mts files. Unfortunately when I locate the files the ok button is not accessible which means 11+ doens't see them.
Earlier on I've noticed that 11+ couldn't even see the camcorder as a drive since I had to use the "import DVD folder" option to locate the files.
Well I'm not in luck I would say. Pinnacle Studio 11 isn't available as a trial version and Power Director 6 has the same problem than 11+ with the patch not working on the trial version. Well ... I'll keep looking.
Thanks very much everyone anyway

passedout,
I'm not sure if you understood Jerry's instructions.
If you duplicate the directory structure that's on the optical media (mini-dvd, or cams harddisk) then you use the "Import From Folder" feature.
You highlight the directory, NOT the files. If you go to far down the directory it will not activate the import button. (Ex: The STREAMS folder is to far down the directory tree)
In my case I highlight either the AVCHD directory or the BDMV directory, depends. But your looking for a directory, not files.
If you purchase the retail version of VS11+ and install the patches you can insert the MTS files directly into the timeline allowing you to bypass the importing process.
When you highlight the directory give VS a little time to process the files, then the Import Icon will become active.

DirectX?
Make sure that you have the latest DirectX installed. May help, certainly won't do any harm, works with the trial version.passedout wrote: and when I locate the files in my camcorder and click on the import/ok button the program start to import and one second later the whole thing disappear. Thanks for your input. In my previous post I should've specified that wasn't the files I was highligthing, which by the way they're not there to be seen, but any of the folder within the structure.
What I do is:
Insert DVD/DVD-VR, click on "import DVD forder" then in the "browse for folder" window I find my newly made tree folder structure, highlight any forlder in it such as AVCHD, BDMV etc but the OK button for importing is unavailable.

Thanks for your advise. I'll install the latest activex and see if it makes any difference.
Thanks to all again

Tried installing the Nov 07 activex but made no difference.
If I decide to go ahead and buy the full version of VS11+ can someone please tell me:
1. Will I be able to edit and render clips keeping the original 1440x1080 res and same quality.
2. Which choice of file format will I have i.e. wmv, meg2 or maybe even keep the original mts.
3. If it's not going to be a popular file format, which player I need to play the files back.
All I want to do with my rendered clips is play them back in the pc and stream them to my tv
Thanks in advance

I think that a Sony PS3 will give you the best video as a playback device. It's not just a gaming console, it's also a multi-media player and can playback your video files without any problems. You don't even need a computer except to put the original M2T/MTS/M2TS files on media and the PS3 will play them back directly from the media, copy to the PS3's harddisk. You can also use Nero as a DNLA server to stream them to the PS3 (or other software).
You can make AVCHD disks that playback in the PS3.
To answer the other questions about formats the answer is "Yes", the hardest though is you have to learn the in/out's of VS and learn a fair amount about video itself.
If your not happy with VS11+ there is a 30day money back policy.
Yes, you will be able to insert your avc/h264 video files directly into the timeline as long as you install the retail version and the 2 important updates (not the Installation HotFix).
Hope this helps.
