I have Paint Shop Pro version 9.0 running on a laptop that I am replacing with a new machne. I downloaded the version 9.0 and do not have a CD for it. I cannot find an email from Jasc or Corel activating or providing a download link. How can I move this program to the new machine?
I have tried emailing corel but after completing the message was greeted with a message saying that they did not suppor the product because it was too old.

A lot depends upon what your new computer is.
What I have previously done when upgrading to a newer computer is to remove the hard drive from the old computer and install it as a secondary drive on the new one. You can then use the computers BIOS to tell it to boot from the secondary drive.
The first time you do so you will probably get a lot of nagging messages regarding drivers for things like the sound card, video card etc. but once you have overcome that teething problem you will have a dual boot system with all of your old programs and files safe on the new machine.

If that is the best answer to this problem then Corel's support of Jasc's products is truly non-existant.
If I had known that the program would not be transferable to another computer I would not have spent the money and I'm pretty sure the same can be said of everyone else who had bought ver 9.0 or other Jasc versions. Kind of borders on fraud but not worth pursuing for the $50 or whatever it cost me. I guess that's what Corel is banking on as well.
Your answer falls under the category of "You have got to be kidding". It's amusing but non-applicable since the computer is a laptop and anyway it's just insane.
Thanks anyway.

To put things back into perspective.
1. The users of this Web Board are ** NOT ** Corel we are users like yourself.
2. You said you have lost your download files - that is your fault no one elses. Please view Lost programs and Serial Numbers
3. Paint Shop Pro 9 is considered by Corel to be a phased out product.

Yes it is transferable but you need the original set up files - however YOU lost them - right! If I had known that the program would not be transferable to another computer I would not have spent the money and I'm pretty sure the same can be said of everyone else who had bought ver 9.0 or other Jasc versions. This is not an insurmountable problem, a laptop CAN have a second hard drive. If the one you have cannot be removed and placed into the other then the easy work round is to fit a second drive in the new laptop and then clone the original drive. You can do this with one of several tools such as Norton Ghost.Your answer falls under the category of "You have got to be kidding". Re: Paint Shop Pro ver 9.0 move to new computer
Well, it looks like digitalriver (the company that used to handle Jasc's download versions) still has the trial on their server:tomkovic wrote:I have Paint Shop Pro version 9.0 running on a laptop that I am replacing with a new machne. I didn't actually give it a go, just clicked the download link to see if it would start. I've always had CD versions so I don't have any idea how the activation for the download version works. You're going to have to find your key though. You might try looking in the version that you have installed on the old machine under Help-> About, see if it shows up in there. You could also try looking through your registry on the old machine to see if it's stored there, Start-> Run, type in regedit, OK, try looking in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Jasc\Installed there's an entry there on my machine that looks like it might be a serial. All you want to be doing here is looking, don't mess around with any of this stuff, you can hose your machine.

As a last possibility, just copy the C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 9 folder from your old computer to your new one. Copy the "My PSP Files" folder from your old "My Documents" to your new documents folder. Then double click on C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 9\Paint Shop Pro 9.exe. Quite possibly it will recreate its registry entries and cache files, and open correctly. If it does, make a desktop and/or Start menu shortcut to make it easier to open in the future.
If it doesn't work, then have a better look for the installation CD or the old downloaded installation file. If you activated a trial copy, and can find the serial number, you can still download the trial from here (version 9.00) or here (version 9.01) on the old Jasc FTP site.
If you can't find any of them, then that's bad luck, but no one's fault but your own. You might find a cheap replacement copy on Ebay or somewhere like Amazon, who often have discounted copies of long discontinued software, or you might want to upgrade to a more recent version. Perhaps there'll be a valuable lesson learnt about backing up computer stuff as well.
