Compressing Mpeg Files
After completing a Home movie with Video Studio I would like to put the mpeg file on my server but I don't have much room. Is there anyway to compress the file either within Video Studio 10 Plus or an outside converter. If so what converter would be best. Also which is formatted smaller AVI, Mpeg 1 or Mpeg 2 file formats.

I would have to echo Clevo's comments. WMV would seem the way to go. But depending on your server, and likely audience, I personally prefer DivX (as also suggested by Clevo). It gives great results (as does HQ WMV). However, you always need to bear your likely audience in mind. If most of your friends likely to see you video have Microsoft, then you are safe with WMV. Otherwise, you have to be sure everyone has the DivX (or other) codec installed so that they can watch your video on the web...
But if you don't mind the atrociously poor quality of converting to YouTube format, then that is OK too...

You can get good results and good compression using Xvid. The Xvid codec is freeware, and compatible with VS. The downside is that it takes a bunch of processing power, so could take quite some time, depending on how much video you have and the speed of your pc.
My best results have come from encoding to x264, using third party software - but on my pc, this typically takes about 10x the video run time.
