Background music

Post by contour »

Hi - I hope someone can help with the following, not strictly connected to the operation of Video Studio 11.5+. which I use.

I want to provide background music tracks for my slide shows and videos without ripping from my library of vynil, CD and 78s, to avoid copyright problems, for which I have the greatest respect. Although, my 78's are probably out of copyright - I hope.

I did have an AWE 32 card but that is long gone and I am now completely out of touch with sound cards. I've tried the Creative forum and Google to no avail.

My hoped for intention is to use Braeburn Music Pblisher 6 with Music OCR, to read out-of-copyright sheet music and an external usb sound card to create sounds. I'm hoping to start as cheaply as possible to test the water. My preferred sounds are brass, woodwind and church organ etc.

A Blaster Live! 24 bit external has been suggested, and it is cheap. I wonder if anyone has been along this route and can comment on any of the above.

Thanks in anticipation

Would it not be better to use Creative Commons music? Most of this can be used legally, free of charge, for non-commercial purposes, with simple mention of the source. For commercial use, you can negotiate terms directly with the CC holder (no intermediaries etc.). All this is above board. I think there are nearly 10,000 albums of an average of 6 tracks each available with music of all genres.

Thanks Devil

What you have suggested is entirely new to me, and it does sound very appealing.

Could you vector me a little further please

warmest regards

Thanks sjj1805 for taking the time to respond with such a useful suggestion.

Smartsound looks most interesting and could be the answer to my needs.

As you said, quite expensive. I'm still hoping that someone will say something about the external sound card and the music OCR route - even more expensive, I suppose.

However, the cost of two or three smartsound records would not be far off the cost of the route of the original enquiry - hopefully.

Digital Juice is similar in price to SmartSound, but I find their quality far superior.

The first thing is to find out what CC is all about and what you can and cannot do. See http://search.creativecommons.org/

One of a number of CC music sites is http://www.jamendo.com/en/albums When you download music, you will see icons showing how you can use that particular music.

Interestingly I clicked on the digital juice link and on the front page of their website they are offering a discount on Sonic Fire Pro!

This really is a good forum.

I posted a similar question on the Creative Labs forum at about the same time and, to date, nothing.

So thank you all for some really good help that I am now seriously considering taking further.

warmest regards
