Hi,
I have been using MF6 for over a year. All DVDs are smooth except the last two I made. I have traced the problem to when you join two or more MPEGs together when selecting "join video". the preview display confirms the video is jerky. I split the videos and the preview display shows smooth video. I typically join and export my MPEGS and MOD files to a single file and now get a jerky video.
I import JVC Everio .MOD files and then join and export.
I have solved this problem by using VideoStudio and then MF6 to author the DVD whilst avoiding the "join video" feature.
I worked backwards. reinstalled, remove all video codecs, reinstalled windows. Now MF6 latest update recognises 16:9 which is why I upgraded from MF5. Do you have an answer to this interesting problem?
Also interesting is that with VideoStudio I need to save twice to get the 16:9. The first save gives 4:3 aspect ratio which is interesting every time. Second save with no adjustments give me the 16:9 aspect ratio
I will never use JVC video cameras again. this unique .MOD format has been a pain. thanks Peter
Joining video files causes jerky results using "join vi
Peter,
Insert the jerky(bad) video into either MF or VS and right click on it, select properties.
Is there any fielding information displayed for the video properties.
Sounds like they are being de-interlaced & rendered as frame-based.
If their is no fielding information (upper field first or lower field first), then they are frame-based which of course you don't want.
What are your Project settings in MF when exporting? MF will encode to whatever your project settings are set to when joining.
So if your project settings are frame_based then the joined video will be frame based.
Usually the videos from your cam are "Upper Field First"
MF5 did have a problem with the fielding when joining. MF6 doesn't (as far as i know of).
Also make sure to install the patches/updates to MF6+.
Also make sure to download & install the latest Directx 9.0C dated Nov 2007. That's required for both programs to work correctly.

etech6355,
thankyou for your assistance.
I always ensure my video properties and project settings match the original JVC *.MOD file. that is
PAL DVD
MPEG-2 Video, Upper Field First
24 Bits, 720x576, 16:9
25 FPS
VBR 9200 KBPS
Audio, Dolby Digital
48K
none
384Kbps
I reloaded Direct 9.0C nov 2007
I reloaded DMF6_full_patch2_e
And again the preview of individual files in MF6+ is smooth. Join them and you can clearly see the jerky result as you play the combined video in the preview window.
I also exported to the same fomat and got the jerky results
I have reloaded XP.
installed new virus scan Trend Micro....no concerns
Yet VS works when combining this video but I need to do two saves to get the 16:9 aspect
Xp has all the updates
May I send my raw JVC files to ulead for analysis.
If you can help me further it would be appreciated. I suspect an external conflict with my PC. I have a DELL computer and it has unique XP SP2 software designed/configured for this computer that I have to use.
Thanks
Peter

Yes, something is definitely wrong.
I wonder what happens if you change the extension from MOD to MPG.
I don't have access to any MOD files but would suspect the program is having a problem reading the container format (MOD Container Format).
The program SUPER can ReMultiplex mpeg files into MPG/VOB container format. It won't re-encode the videos if you select the "Free Aspect Mode" (top selection in the super screen for re-multiplexing mpeg video)
You have VS & MF installed. Could there possibly be a conflict between the 2 programs?
The only way to tell is you would have to remove/rename the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems Directory and re-install just one of the programs. Sometimes the files in the above directories can get mixed up. Even when you un-install one of the programs it will leave those directories behind knowing you have other ulead software installed. So un-installing one of the programs doesn't fix the problem because the conflicting files are still in that common files directory.
So maybe rename that common files\ Ulead Systems directory and repair or re-install MF6 again so it's using it's own distribution files.
To rename the ulead systems directory running XP you will have to terminate the "ULCDRSvr.exe" program that's running resident under "Task Manager"

Non Smooth video when Joining MPEG or MOD files
Hi Etech6355
I wanted to take some time to verify your suggestions and carefully went through each change.
1) I changed the MOD to MPEG extension. No change. MF6 recognised the
16:9 format.So I'm happy with this!!
2) i am not familiar with SUPER and if I have to use something else then VS works for joining my videos. So I did not try this as I want to solve the MF6 + with Patch 2. Else I will start searching another product. I know in the end VS works so I have a good software package but want to know that after 4 years using MF that is it now a pain
3) I never used VS until this problem occurred. I installed VS and it joined these MOD files perfectly.... smoothly. Hence there is no conflict since the prolblem occurred before I installed VS. At least I have a way to produce DVDs but I am not happy that I have to use another software package.
4) Yes I deleted all folders named ULEAD. Uninstalled all ULEAD products and started again. I loaded my original MF6 without updates and found the same problem. It must be a conflict with XP. I installed TREND mirco security but nothing to worry about.
This computer runs simple software. outlook and various photo packages from Canon and Olympus.
I reinstalled XP only 4 weeks ago but it was a repair in order to fix this problem .. no change. I do not want to reformat the hard drive. I rather buy another DVD authoring product as this computer runs perfect except when I use MF6.....sorry but this is my frustration after being such a loyal user.
Also I struggle to start up MF6. the launcher starts and then 50% of the time after selecting new project or exiting nothing happens. I have too kill DNDMF.EXE and DMFLauncher.exe to start again. this is not right.
Hence Do I need to completely re-format and start again?
thanks in advance
Peter

That's a real indication something is wrong and unstable. Also I struggle to start up MF6. the launcher starts and then 50% of the time after selecting new project or exiting nothing happens. I have too kill DNDMF.EXE and DMFLauncher.exe to start again. this is not right.
I had that same problem with MF5 & 6 running on XP with only SP1. After I installed SP2 the stability problems went away.
So you need Service Pack 2 for XP installed.
The only thing I can add is to make sure to be running SP2 and install the MF6+ updates (which are important) and also any version of DirectX 9.0C dated November 2007 or higher.
Thanks Etech.
I installed SP3, checked for the three MF6 updates/patch/hotfix and Direct X9.0C.
I have bought another computer today DELL XPS 420. When it arrives I will check this video joining problem with two test MOD files. I will provide feedback when I do this. It will finally indicate if the problem is within the JVC .MOD file or system.

New computer, different operating software, same jerky video
Well I decided to buy a new computer to fix this problem.
I got a DELL XPS 420 quad core, loaded MF6 and new JVC Everio MOD files.
Again when the file are separate the video is smooth. Upon joining them the second video goes jerky in the preview. Again exported the joined files and I have a jefky video.
So I bought a new computer and still have the same problem. It must be this JVC .MOD file. So many codec struggle to read the file.
If you have a solution please help. All my files are up to date.
Thanks
