converting _ts videos to wmv or other common file types

Post by sunshine62 »

Forgive me if this question has already been asked, but I checked and didn't see it. I have an old 8MM camcorder, and bought a SONY DVD maker and was able to convert my tapes to DVDs. When I played them on my computer, I couldn't do screen capture with the old version of Intervideo WINDVD for Toshiba, which came pre-installed in my laptop which is a few years old (yes, a dinosaur by now, but I can't afford a new one). So, I downloaded the WINDVD Platimum 8, which is great at screen capture. My problem is that I want to download some funny videos I converted of my pets playing to myspace, and it would only accept certain types of files, such as wmv, etc. How do I convert _ts files which come from the DVD maker and play in the WINDVD to files such as wmv? Do I have to buy separate software, or is there a free download of another program that I can safely use, that won't interfere with my new WINDVD program? Sorry if this is long-winded, but I'm very confused, and any assistance is much appreciated.

WinDVD 8 Plat., is playback software. It is neither a video editor or DVD authoring program.

To do what you're wanting to do you need a program like VideoStudio, if you're wanting to do some editing to your video clips. If you just want to convert them you can use a free program called Super.

Also to minimize confusion, the files that you need to convert are not TS as in Transport Stream(m2ts) but the VOB files contained in the Video_TS folders of the DVDs correct?

converting _ts files

Well, I downloaded the Super program. But I can't understand how to use it. Very confusing. I am not a techie type of person. it doesn't seem very user friendly. Am I missing something? I don't understand half of the language, and a very confusing box of numbers and options appear. Help!!! Can anyone explain it in layman's terms? Thanks in advance.

Okay, so I downloaded the free version of Stoik, which claims to convert _TS video (avi files) to other types of files, but when I try to put the input file in, it doesn't recognize it. Please help!!!
