Import from DVD - DVD drive not showing

Post by woodchuck »

I've been using VS10+ and VS11+ for some time now but never attempted to import a DVD into VS until now.

When I get to the window to select a DVD title there are no DVD drives showing for selection. I have the most recent firmware for my DVD drive and a DVD is in the drive. I have tried several DVDs including my personal ones created with VS10 and VS11.

I have tried both VS10 and VS11 with the same results.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks.

Oops . . .

I just tried burning a DVD from VS11 and it is no longer working. When I select Share > Create Disk > DVD > I get to the authoring software. I add a video clip, press next and select a menu. When I press Next it does not go to the step where I can choose to burn a DVD or create an Iso file etc.

If I do the same thing in VS10+ it does go to the last step but the burner drop down menu is greyed out.

I am able to burn a DVD using other software. I used Roxio to burn an ISO file that I had previously created in VS11.

For some reason Video Studio does not seem to recognize by DVD drives anymore.

I installed a trial version of AnyDVD yesterday so I uninstalled it to see if that was the problem. Still did not work.

Any suggestions? I'm not very tech savy, so please bear with me.

Hi Woodchuck,

was the Roxio loaded after you previously burned DVD's with VS?

Sometimes there is "packet writing' software, such as Roxio DLA, or even Nero InCD, which "take over" your DVD burner, preventing access by VS.

If this is so in your case, Roxio DLA can be disabled, or you could uninstall it if you don't use it. You would need to uninstall Nero InCD.

2Dogs,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have had Roxio longer than VS11. It has been 2 or 3 weeks since I burned a DVD with VS so something has changed -- I just can't figure out what.

Anyway, I uninstalled Roxio just to see the results. It did not fix it. I also removed and reinstalled VS11 and that did not fix the problem either.

I appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.

I don't know if this will work for your problem, but I had similar problems and this is what fixed it.

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems. Rename the DVD folder to something like DVDOLD. Then reinstall the program. It should rebuild that folder and contents. After that it worked fine for me.

Thank you, thank you, Vidoman!

Renaming the DVD folder and reinstalling VS11 worked.
