I just uninstalled vs10 and installed VS11. I grouped several AVI files into 5 projects adding the titles, transitions etc... and created a video file (ntfs dolby 5.1) for each project. I then created a DVD with the 5 MPEG files and customized the menu accordingly. When I selected just create video folders (onto my desktop) and normalize audio I got an error at the end of the process " cannot create file". I've got lots of disk space and can't figure this one out.
I then checked the button to burn the DVD (DVD-R on a memorex 16x drive that worked fine with VS10) and got a "failed to burn data onto disk" message at the end of the burn process. I tried another disc and got the same error. Any clues?
Problems with VS11 after just converting

Hey neighbor! What are the properties of your MPEG files? What are the properties of your burn project?

Properties
Project properties (from one of my projects):
MPEG files: NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4.3
Microsoft AVI files
NTSC non-drop frame (30 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 320 x 240, 30fps
Lower Field First
Uncompressed
MPEG file properties (from the corresponding MPEG file)
File Format: NTSC DVD
Video type MPEG-2 Video Lower Field First
Total Frames ¡V 48,460
Attributes 24 bits, 720 x 480, 4¡¨3
Frame Rate 29.970 frames/sec
Data Rate Variable bit rate (Max 8000 kbps)
Audio type Dolby Digital Audio
Total samples 77,613,614
Attributes: 48000 hx 5.1 channels
Layer none
Bite rate 384 kbps
After trying lots of different combinations I was able to get Ulead 11 to produce the ISO file only (not DVD folders or disc burn). I then used Nero to burn the ISO. But it would be nice to not do a work around.

I don't understand why you list project properties of MPEG-2 and another for AVI. Your want your project properties to exactly match your clip properties.
Could you please clarify?

I am also mystified by the AVI properties in particular -- they are half frame size and with the (slightly) unusual speed of 30 fps instead of the standard 29.97 fps for NTSC... Yet the other properties show that, if you start with this, you are then expanding the frame size upwards and thus potentially adding at least one level of diminution of quality. So can you tell us please something about where those particular video files are coming from?

Unusual AVI files
How can I best convert the AVI files that came from the vendor who produced them from 8mm file transfers? I need to regularly enhance them and burn them onto DVD. Any advice?
