.avi Files and Vista Home Premium Edition using VS11+

Has anyone managed to open the sample files .avi which came with VS11+ when using Vista Home Premium. I have been in contact with Corel who have taken up the problem with their development team. One of their options was for me download a codec from DivX. Previous to this when I tried to open the .avi file in WMP the message appeared "codec required". Now when I try to do the same a message appears "codec acquired", but still the files will not play. The .avi files will not open in VS11+ either. A couple of messages appear to the effect that the file is of unknown format etc.

Those sample video clips use the Ligos Indeo Video codec. If you want to use that codec you will need to purchase it from Ligos.

It used to be freely distributed by Microsoft, however that ceased a couple of years ago. MS Stops Distribution of Indeo Codecs
