Printing direct to DVD with Epson R800

Post by hikent »

Is this possible? Are other people using label@once for direct to DVD printing?

Thanks. Kent

I don't know if this printer will do it. Since it needs a special tray to do that, it will tell you so in the spec's. If it doesn't tell you it's likely that it won't.

I have a Canon iP5000 which prints to CD and I use the software which comes with the printer. Most of my labels I make up in PI prior and just select these from the printer software.

The printer will print on DVDs with the included tray. I currently use roxio "label creator" with some success, but wanted to use the "label@once" to simplify work flow. I don't see the EPSON printer from the pull-down of formats -- hoped to find out how it's done.

Kent,

I use an Epson R340 as follows. Your settings should be similar. To print directly to disc select your printer under the Printer dropdown, select "CD Label" under the Media Type dropdown and select "Epson Straight To Disc" under the Paper Size dropdown. You may have to use the scroll bars to find your printer as the window is rather small.

Hope that helps,

Do you have any problem with centering on the disk, etc?

No probs at all. For my Epson R340 I use the preloaded R300 template in Label@Once and it prints dead-on center. If you've already done that and your labels are off center, you might give the R310 profile a try. Failing that, you'd have to make a custom template by entering the appropriate X and Y offsets and applying them to one of the 12cm disc templates. Once you've done this and named the new template it will appear in the paper size dropdown in Label@Once. Before printing you should also click the "Printer Settings" icon (in the "Output Selections" box) to open the Epson print layout to make sure all the settings are on CD/DVD rather than "Sheet". Also, the paper size should be A4.

If you need help determining the X and Y offsets I can probably help you with it.
