MF6+ fails to import chapters from DVD+RW

Post by EdoardoArese »

I have a Samsung DVD camcorder and recorded a mini DVD+RW recorded in LP mode, VR, 16:9
Each time I try importing DVD content in MF6Plus by flagging one or more chapters the system hangs a while and throws this error:

Code: Select all

Unspecified error
report ID 0x80041460(5216)
If I ignore it and proceed with the import I get this other error:

Code: Select all

fail to get DVD disk stream reader
report ID 0x80040911(2321)
I tried changing the H264VDecHPDll.dll and downloading a new one from the site but nothing changed.
I'm not sure but I have the feeling this did not happen with the demo version I downloaded and installed before purchasing the full version of the program....

Project settings are:

Code: Select all

MPEG files
24 bits, 352 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 2500 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
Output format DVD (4,7 GB) PAL
Audio codecs installed:

Welcome to the forums,

This will involve re-installing the program..

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead, and rename the DVD folder to something like DVDOLD. Now re-install the program. It should create a new DVD folder and contents.

MF6 plus still can't import from family DVDs

Post by EdoardoArese »

I tried to work around the problem by installing the software on another computer running WinXP (a bit less powerful - adM athlon 1 ghz 1Gb RAM) but whenever I try to run the program by double clicking on the Movie factory launcher a message appears telling me the produts is not installed.. to try reinstalling.. which I did with no success.
I therefore tried to install the program on a VirtualMachine running win 2003 server. First thing it told me it could not run without directX so I downloaded the whole thing, installed it and... once I tried proceeding with the installation the program insists on saying I don't have the directX 9 or above and installation will stop.!
Why isn't anything going the way it's supposed to go?
thans for any help you can give me before I completely go bananas trying to install, uninstall etc...

By the way, tried your suggestion .. no go

Post by EdoardoArese »

Forgot to say that before doing all of the above I have tried renaming the DVD folder in the Program files\Common files\Ulead folder and reinstalling (let me know if I got this right...I did this by selecting control panel, remove-repair, and then selecting repair... I did not completely uninstall)
Result... nothing changed. still get the undefined error message and no video captured..

Fails to import family DVD

Yessir the DVD works fine on my computer's player, on my home DVD player and on the camera's player.
Plus it does this on all my family mini DVD's except one. The only difference is this last one is a DVD-RW as opposed to all the others which are +RW.
For a while I thought I maybe formatted incorrectly the DVD or the DVD was damaged but I can't believe this same thing happens on 5 different DVDs!! that's no coincidence.

deactivating inits I get a different error

Post by EdoardoArese »

I tried booting with all the tray initi files deactivated (Start-> run.. -> msconfig -> Boot - > deactivate all (even my anti Virus!) the progam still fails to work but it does so in a slightly different way.
It tries at least to import the clips from the DVD when i flag the chapters instead of triggering the usual "undefined error". nevertheless, as soon as I click on the import button after selecting one, more than one or all the chapters on the DVD I get this error:

Code: Select all

the instruction at "0x09542064" refers to memory location "0x0f301f3c". Memory could not be "read"
click OK to close the application.
Looking into the error the system is about to send to microsoft I see this

Code: Select all

AppName: dvdmf.exe AppVer: 6.0.0.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00001010
Is this of any help.. does it ring a bell by any chance.
thanks for any help you can give me..
regards

You do **NOT** format a DVD when creating a Video DVD.
You only format a DVD when it is being used for packet writing.
Packet Writing is the method used to create a special form of DATA disc where it behaves like a hard drive and you can drag and drop files onto the disc using Windows Explorer.

The camera asks me to format the disk before using it... I don't have a choice in that sense...

You mean that it works with +RW but it doesn't work with -RW?
I think you've answered your own problem.

I think you've answered your own problem.
say what?!?

1) camcorder works fine with both, proof is I have videos that can be played correctly on any DVD reader albeit computer mounted or domestic DVD reader.

2) My DVD Reader/writer reads anything DVD+/- R DVD +/- RW DVD-RAM

3) Ulead Movie Factory seems to have no problem playing the disk or previewing it, it simply won't IMPORT it - ie doing the job it was purchased for!
Does DVD Movie Factory only work with -RW disks?? I don't think so! If this is so it's not written in the manual and/or in the System requirements.

Please do not try to insult my intelligence or patronize me using witty remarks. I told you about the -RW disks in case this rang a bell and had something to do with some obscure dll you packed in your software NOT with the fact i'm using a dvd reader that does not support that type of disk and, by the way, if you try to play unsupported disks on a DVD unit they simply don't show up in explorer! They DON'T screw up when you're ripping them.

I tried running the program on 3 physical Win XP computers and 1 virtual machine running Windows 2003 and it does the same mistake on all of them! can't be a coincidence.

I guess your answer simply means "there is no solution to the problem stop bothering me" .. in brief I wasted my money on this software and won't do the same mistake again...ok I guess I won't be saying wonders about it!
Have a good day.

Movie Factory 5 and 6

I have the same problem. Using Import DVD..After parsing the DVD I'm presented with the titles, etc. When selecting one I get the despised "ImportDVD app MFC application has encountered a problem and needs to close." GRRRrrrr

A search for "MFC" shows dozens! Which one is the bad, if there is???

I have un-installed re-installed, D/L'd the "DMF6_full_patch2_e", etc, ran it and get the same results. The program MF6 disappears from the screen, the DVD drive locks and I have to do one more GD Reboot.

What a POS! I wonder what the aggregate total of hours would be of the world-wide user of Wincrap waiting for reboots?

So, I'm "dead in the water" far as the usage of MF 5 or 6 goes. :x

If anyone has found a way to circumvent this problem I would be grateful to have that information....

EdoardoArese,

We aren't reps from ulead, just users helping each other. The mods are also users & not reps.
It's hard for all of us to have, or keep up to date with all the video equipment in the field. Different dvd recorders have different methods of writing data.
For some reason the Samsung dvd recorders has given us various problems. They all have their quirks, Sony/Panasonic.
I don't think the software runs well in a 2003 server install, VM or not. It does run in a XP-SP2 VM.

I read from your first post you had the trial, removed it and then installed MF6+ retail.
Did you also install Patch#2? This is very important.
Also the DirectX 9.0C Updated dated November 2007 or later.
If not then do this to update the program, patch#2 fixes many issues, including the files used to import dvd's.

Usually, when I use DVD+RW disks (after my dvd recorder formats them as UDF 2.01, which can also be used for packet writing) the recorder puts 2 directories on the DVD+RW disks.
A VIDEO_RM and a VIDEO_TS directory. DVD+RW disks can take long to import because the dvd reader has to read both these directories and dvd readers aren't great at multi-seeking.

I suggest making a directory on you harddisk such as DVD_IMPORT.
Then copy the VIDEO_RM and VIDEO_TS directories under this DVD_IMPORT directory.
When you click on the Import DVD select "Import From Folder", naviagate to the DVD_IMPORT or VIDEO_TS folder on the harddisk and then try to import the dvd. So actually your mirroring the dvd to the harddisk.
DVD+RW's created on dvd recorders are written in the +VR format.
DVD-RW's created on dvd recorders are written in 2 different formats, either the -VR format or just the standard DVD-VIDEO format.
If you formatted the DVD-RW disk or a DVD-RAM disk (not just blank erase but actually formatted it), then it's recorded in the -VR mode.
DVD-RAM can only be written in -VR mode and usually formatted as UDF 2.01.

Also try this with the DVD-RW disk. If it's written in the -VR format then the directory will be a DVD_RTAV folder. The main video in under that directory with an extension of .VRO.
So also copy the full DVD_RTAV folder to your local harddisk and try importing the -VR disk from the local harddisk.

As far as I know there are 2 specific DLL's used in the DVD folder that affect importing dvd's.

What makes this hard to troubleshoot is whether or not there are any other codec's installed on the system that could be interferring with reading the mpeg2 videos on the dvd's. Codec's packs like "K-lite" or "All in one fix" can conflict with MF6 working correctly.

Last resort, record on a standard DVD-R disk in Standard Play mode (not LP), then finalize the dvd and try to import the videos into MF6+.
If the DVD-R disk fails it's usually a codec conflict on the computer.
