VS9 Smart Sound issue

Post by david_k_jordan »

Greetings:
I have been having an issue with VS 9 and Smart Sound. When I used the upgrade from VS 8 to VS 9 and installed the add on "Full Spectrum 22k" from the Smart Download in VS 9, it installed the program just fine...but only 2 choices are now available in my Auto Music (Hot and Spicy & Island Party).
I can see that all of the other files for Mart Sound ar on my hard drive by looking at the folder...but when I go to the Smart Sound interface to rebuild libraries, it starts to go through the process and doesn't load them. I also try to manually add the files in the Smart Sound interface window...but it will not allow me to add them.
Can someone please help me with this issue?

Frustrated...

I also wanted to say that I completely uninstalled VS 8, Smartsound software, VS 9...and started completely over...no luck.

Migration Tool?

Post by GeorgeW »

Maybe the installation didn't complete when loading the Quicktracks into your system? Do you have the downloaded version, or a retail boxed version of VS9?

In the Auto Music section, click on the Smartsound QUicktracks icon, and then the Migration tab on the popup window. Maybe you can search for your quicktracks from VS8?

I too have the same problem with UVS V9. I also had an issue with "Full Spectrum 22k" in Version 8 of Video Studio where it would not install at all. Even the Ulead techies were at a loss as to what the problem could be. I am sure it is not related to my machine (an AMD64) as I tried to install it on an Intel P4 machine with the same failure. I think it might be something to do with the fact that the files are downloaded and the installation is not off a CD :evil:

If you get any answers on this, I would like to hear from you (or anyone else)!

Thanks

Believe it or not, I had to reload my machine, complete re-install, format etc. to fix this...I just didn't want to play with it any longer...I had vested way to much time in it to make it worthwhile...and I needed to reload anyway...so I did the reload, and all was well. Not a great solution I know...I am not proud of it...but that is how I solved it.

I had a little poke around and solved the problem, at least for me - YMMV.

First, I deleted C:\Smartsound\... and evrything below. This only had the standard 26 Smartsound 22K Full Spectrum tracks in it for me, so no biggie. Hey Mr. Installers, sticking stuff into the root of a drive is errrm, baaaad. Get with 2005 and put it in the right place.

Next, I located C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc. There are two sub-folders of interest here; Libraries and Sound Files. Sound Files should contain all your tracks when you're done and Libraries contains the library files that say which tracks you've got. Basically, they are XML files.

If you have the problem that we have in this thread, you'll probably see that your Full Spectrum 22K library file is only 4K in size and not the FULL 34K that it should be (pun intended).

Delete Full Spectrum 22k.sdx. Now edit UserData.sxl and remove any lines referencing the Full Spectrum 22K library with Notepad.

Re-Install the Full Spectrum 22K Smartsound package that came with the extras download/CD.

Fire-up VS9 and click on the audio tab then click on the auto-music sub-tab. Stuff will happen ;)

At this stage, your problem should be sorted, but for the avoidance of doubt; click on Smartsound quicktracks button in VS9 and check that the Folders tab has the correct path to the sound files (as mentioned earlier above) and that the correct libraries are shown on the Libraries tab).

Finally, rebuild the Smartsound libraries, to be sure everything is as it should be.

I had this problem, but I seem to have done something wrong in implementing the fix...

I now seem to have all the right files in the right places. But I can't see ANYTHING in the Auto Music tab -- no libraries, no music, and all the icons/buttons at the bottom ofthe tab are greyed out.

I think I may have messed up the UserData.sxl file. All I have is the following:

*****

<Libraries>

<Personalization/>

<PurchaseStatus/>

<SoundFolders>
<SoundFolder>C:\SmartSound Software\Quicktracks\Library\</SoundFolder>
</SoundFolders>

</Libraries>

*****

Should there be more? After I deleted lines referencing Full Spectrum, there's now nothing here about Full Spectrum, and I reckon there probably should be.

Any ideas?

Richard.

My immediate guess is you did not re-install Full Spectrum 22K successfully.

UserData.sxl in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc\Libraries looks like this for me:

<Libraries>

<Personalization/>

<PurchaseStatus/>

<Library LibID="128" name="Full Spectrum 22k" status="22k"/>

</Libraries>

Here is a Directory listing of my C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc\Libraries folder:

02/05/2005 00:46 <DIR> .
02/05/2005 00:46 <DIR> ..
24/04/2005 03:42 3,223,570 Compiled Libraries.SXL
12/07/2004 05:41 34,033 Full Spectrum 22k.sdx
24/04/2005 02:44 3,185,864 Master Libraries.sxl
24/04/2005 03:42 133 UserData.sxl
4 File(s) 6,443,600 bytes
2 Dir(s) 20,321,292,288 bytes free

My sound files are in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc\Sound Files (26 files)

Fuego,

Thanks, and hmmm...

I have NO Compiled Libraries.sxl.

The others are more or less the same. I'm on XP Home.

I'll have a bit more of a tinker, see what I can find.

Well, I'm not finding much...

None of the installation processes seem to touch UserData.sxl. After I delete the line with Full Spectrum 22k in it, the file never gets touched/updated.

I still can't see ANY SmartSound tracks in the Austo Sound tab (although I have lots of files in what appear to be the right places).

The Full Spectrum 22k.sdx file, which WAS 3.?k is now 33.2k.

Master Libraries.sxl is just under 3MB.

I have NO Compiled Libraries file.

All of the buttons are greyed out in the Auto Music tab.

I have tried uninstalling VS9 and re-installing. I have rerun the Full Spectrum 22k installer several times.

And I have tried the procedure suggested by Fuego. (Fuego: I need to start the system in Safe Mode to be able to delete the Smart Sound directory in the root drive. If I don't start in Safe Mode, I can't delete -- system reports athat a program or user is accessing the files. I don't know what program that would be...)

For avoidance of doubt, I am NOT using a trial version. It's a paid-for and registered upgrade download.

Any further suggestions appreciated.

Richard.

Stupid question, but are you sure the Audio tab is disabled? It may look greyed out, but try clicking it and see if stuff happens.

Just another thought as well, are you installing under a user profile that has administrative rights (part of the administrators group)?
