Help transferring a project from wifes computer to mine???
My wife has been working on a project for months on her steam driven computer. When she attempted to render it, it partially rendered until it used up all hard drive space. I have now moved the project and all files onto an external hard drive with the intention of rendering, sharing and saving to DVD on my computer for her. I opened VS9 on my computer and attempted to copy the project and files into VS9 on my computer. When asked to re-link the video files, it will not allow me to 'Block' all the files to relink. I click on the first file, then hold down Shift and click on the last file but this just removes the highlight on the first and highlights the last. There are too many to do each one individually. Is there a post here somewhere that can give me instruction on the whole process of what I intend to do?? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I also have VS11 on my computer as well as VS9, can I import it into 11? If it's a larger problem I will just use VS9.

Hi
It is best if all files reside in the same folder, Then when you re-link all files within that folder will link from the first attempt.
If the files are fragmented, saved all over the hard drive then you will have a lot of work to do.
The browse window for the file re-link indicates which file you are looking for.
When you first open the project the first clip will request a re-link. This will link to all files within that folder. If you have a second folder with lots of clips, it appears as though you have to do individually.
Do this, save the project, then open the project again, forcing an auto-re-link.
A bit complicated, but if all files are in the same folder from the creation of the VSP then it becomes easy.

I don't need to re-link often, but I have found that with my v10+, when I re-link a clip it will not automatically re-link other clips that are in the same folder.
But I don't think this is the OP's problem anyway, as his message is File Format Mismatch. You wouldn't get that if it were a simple re-link.

Hi
The original VSP had clips in the timeline, these should all be in the same folder.
If they are spread across the hard drive in different locations, you will have problems with re-linking.
If you move the files to the external drive and save them in one folder, it will make no difference, you will still have to re-link individually. The re-link shows the old location of the file and will re-link to all files that were in that location.
If the original Vsp¡¦s files were together then re-linking should be easy.
When you get the re-link window, you can only select the one file, the one that is indicated at the top of the window. All files that were adjacent to this file will be re-linked.
If you try to select all files in the folder you may select the wrong type, giving a File Mismatch.
When you re-link select only the one file, the file indicated.
There are two forms of re-link, auto, the one you get when you open the project, this will re-link all files in the folder.
And a re-link when you click a Black and White clip Manual, this usually only re-links the one file. Save the project, then open again.

Not much help in this situation because it is VS9.
However, for the benefit of anyone else with this problem a new function exists from VS11 onwards
File | Smart Package
This new function will gather together all of your material and a copy of the vsp file into one folder so that you can easily copy the whole lot to a convenient storage medium or transfer to another computer.
