I'm having an issue with editing my video files in VideoStudio 11.
The are captured video files from Sims 2. They are AVI and compressed with the VP61 decoder. I have had a few problems in the past but have managed to get by. Now though any time I open one of my saved projects or start a fresh one with any of the files the entire program slows down.
It takes longer to import and menus are sluggish but the biggest problem is that there is so much lag on things like the progress slider it is impossible to work on my projects.
There are no problems with working in other projects with video from my camcorder.
The annoying thing is that I used to be able to work with these files in VS10 and 11 just fine. Maybe I'm just too frustrated to see an obvious problem, any suggestions?
Thanks!
P.S. It is also not a due to a lack of computing power and the video is not corrupted. The previews are also set to instant.

I just had a little surf around to look for that codec and the results aren't pretty.
Basically it seems to be, in the first place, a very process intensive codec hence your current problems with it.
Additionally I think the difference you are experiencing may be more due to Vista than anything else as it seems to been a VFW (video for windows) codec originally.
On another site there was reference to it being Windows Direct Show (the successor to VFW) based which has also changed in Vista.
You might want to go to the Windows site and download the very lastest DirectX for your sysrem and see what happens.

Yeah I've noticed the codec is pretty bad, unfortunatly that's what the video is captured with.
I have the latest drivers for DirectX and that doesn't help, though I can open and edit in Vista Movie Maker...
Maybe I should try and find a converter that could handle that codec (I've tried before with poor results). Though I don't suppose the project would just relink the files if they're in a different format and size.
Thanks for the help and any additional thoughts,
