TOD won't play

Post by Link »

I just bought VS 11+ specifically to edit .TOD files from my Everio HD7.

They load fine into the library and the Timeline. But they won't play. The "arrow" changes to the "pause sign", and it looks like it advances one frame, then nothing.

I found if I change the video speed to 101% (or 99%) it will play just fine. Other files Play OK, too. It's just the TODs.

I also tried changing the >tod to .mpg. It loads, but doesn't play. When I do the 101% thing, it plays but is scrambled.

Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks Link

ADDENDUM: I tried a reinstall. No joy. I tried without the Update patch. No joy. I tried without the Bonus Pack. You guessed it...still broke. (Obviously, it didn't even recognize TOD files without the "extras" installed.)

First with VS, the TOD file support is found in the Power Pack upgrade. So the native VS11+ will not recognize the TOD files.

I done some quick research on this, and found that some are using VS11.5+ just to convert the TOD files to other usable formats, such as MPEG2. Have you tried inserting a TOD file, then going to Share>Create Video file, and selecting the appropriate format such as HDV, HDDVD, or just DVD (MPEG2)?

Next I read to where they also use a freeware program called MPEG Streamclip, to convert the TOD files. http://forum.videohelp.com/topic333566.html

My apologies for not being versed on this problem. When I read ones like this I go searching for possible solutions. Hopefully this will help...;)

Try renaming them from TOD to MPG.
That's all that one of the JVC utility program does to make them more compatible.

In both Avid Liquid and Sony Vegas, if you change the extension to M2T you can import/edit them. I have not tried with Ulead though.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have used several of them in the past.

I THOUGHT by buying VS11 I wouldn't have to fool around with conversions/renaming since it has "native" TOD capability.

And it DOES recognize and load the files just fine. It just hangs up on playback. I can create a file in the "Share" menu (an AVI), and it plays just fine...but I'm pretty sure that everyone with a HD7 doesn't have to go thru that. (If they do then Corel seriously misrepresented the capabilities of 11+...and I haven't heard anything to indicate that.)

There's gotta be something I'm doing wrong. I was hoping someone else had seen this problem.

Sure, I can do the "workarounds", but I shouldn't have to.

And I really DO appreciate your help (even if it sounds like I don't...I'm just frustrated.)

Is your computer fast enough for HD?
You probably recorded them at 1920x1080?
What bitrate?

Similar Post related to a JVC High Definition Camcorder on a slow computer (then later on a new computer ):

The only thing I can think that may be the problem is your computer is to slow to edit High Definition Video.

Good suggestion, but nope.

I found the problem. I had the K-Lite codec package installed (along with RealPlayer). Apparently that was hanging it up.

I removed RP and K-Lite and now it works flawlessly! So far...

Dunno why that would cause the problem, but codecs are black magic to me anyway!

Thanks for all the advice!!

EDIT: I went to your links, Etech. LOTS of good info there. Thanks.
