Hello,
I have suceeded in capturing all my VHS and Hi8mm video through a ADS tech as DV-AVI files all specified as lower frame first.
I am now set to capture my MiniDv tapes from my Panasonic PV-GS320 via the direct fire wire connection. I just read some of the previous posts and see that this should be upper frame first for DV-avi files?
I want to create a video from all of the source materials but understand that a project can only have one setting for frames. Given the above information, how do I mix these two? Do I set the capture of the Digital material to lower frame first? Will that harm the video quality?
Thanks,
Todd
mix of upper and lower fields - how to do this?

In any case, Video Studio will capture DV always by default using Lower Field First. There is no setting in the capture module which will allow you to change that anyway. So simply do NOT later change the project properties to Upper Field First.
The easiest way to ensure you get the project properties right is to make sure, in File > Preferences > General, that the box beside 'show message when insert first clip in timeline' is ticked (sorry, can't recall the exact words as I am travelling and don't have VS on this computer). But that way, when you insert your first DV into the timeline, you will be asked if you want the project properties to match those of the clip. And of course, you say ... OK!

Thank you both for the fast response! My reference to upper fields first came from a recent posting thread by "scannavison?" Which on re-reading that thead he is concerned with minDVD not miniDv. Don't know if that makes a real differnce but for me it doesn't matter as I don't and won't have a miniDVD.
Got the message loud and clear - continue to ALWAYS use lower frame first.
Thanks and regards,
Todd
