Failed to create VOB file

Post by mcwhirtj »

I am runnng DVD Moviefactory for Toshiba 5.51.0018.0 Vista (a version that came pre-packaged on my laptop when purchased) When attempting to burn a DVD or just create an image, it gets about 8 minutes in and about 70% complete and gives me the error "Failed to create VOB folder" and stops. Right before this happens, the detailed progress shows that it is "building motion background of the menu" and then "building new transitions" and then it briefly states "Incorrect or unauthorized use of authoring tools" right before the pop up come up wih the "failed" remark.
Any ideas on what this could be? causing this?
Thanks
Jeff

Vista user rights management comes to mind  do you have read write access to the temp folders?

I'll have a look into the temp folder issue....assuming these are the temp folders related to this software, or located somewhere else? I'll also look at global settings. Thanks.

"Incorrect or unauthorized use of authoring tools"
I have no idea what that message means...

What format are your video files and where did they come from? The trouble is usually with the decoding rather than the encoding. (Movie Factory can make VOB (MPEG-2) files, but the question is, can it make a VOB file from your file?)

The Read This First... post at the top of the forum tells you what we need to know.

Or, you can try searching the forum for the format you are using. (i.e. Search for "DivX", "AVCHD", etc.)

It's right off a 30 min DVD from my Sony Hanycam DVD 550 I think is the model. I am guessing it is probably MPEG2 files. The raw data is files with extensions of .buf.ifo and .vob.

I would re-activate UAC back to where it belongs.

Re-install the application over itself. Just re-install it again.
There is also an update to that program, the link is on the Canon drivers web site.
There's also a link on this forum, maybe if you search you can find it.

OK

Note sure what app you are referring to...the Moviefactory came pre installed with the Toshiba laptop and have no original program disk.

Canon? I have a Sony handycam.

Thanks
