Just be aware that you are using the DV-to-DVD wizard. This means you have a mini DV camera, and the ONLY way of capturing high quality video from such a camera == particularly using that wizard == is by using the DV capture device, which is Firewire. So first make sure your computer has a firewire port on it. Your camera certainly will -- a small 4 pin variety. And if your computer does not have one, they are cheap and easy to install in a spare AGP slot on your motherboard. You just open the computer case, identify the spare slot, slot in the card and insert the one screw to attach it to the case. Then attach the computer cover again.
If you indeed have to buy one, make sure it comes with the correct cable -- normally a 4 pin (for the camera end) to 6 pin (for the computer end)... And if you are not sure what they look like, simply Google for 'photo of firewire port' and you will get lots of responses...

When you connect the cable to the firewire port on the computer plug the other end into the firewire port on the cam. Launch VS then turn the cam on to Play/Edit.
Does VS still fail to detect?
Alternately connect the cam to the computer and turn it on to Play/Edit without VS running, when Windows detects the cam it should give you a choice for what program you want to use to deal with what has been detected. Select VS and go to the DVD to DVD wizard.
