Take too long to burn DVD
Take too long to burn DVD
It takes about 5 hours to burn one DVD with my MM 5.6. This software came with my HG10 camera and when I make a movie it takes so long to burn to DVD. Is This normal?

On a system like this, please click on the thumb nail below for a larger image, it could be considered lightning fast. How did you do it?

You might not be aware of it but the system you are using has a large bearing on how quickly or slowly a video is rendered. How do you expect anyone to give you any meaningful advice if you omit all the vital details.
Have a read of this and come back with the necessary detail, I'm sure help will be forthcoming too..

If your video is in any format other than (DVD compliant) MPEG2 then it will have to be converted before the program can create the DVD.
Typically a 1 hour video in DV will take between 90 minutes and 3 hours to convert.
If you are using one of the highly compressed formats such as MPEG4
DivX or Xvid then it can take a lot longer, I have known one take 11 hours. for those formats it is better to convert them to MPEG2 format beforehand using a program specially made to do so. There are plenty available by searching Google.

Thank you very much for the responce.
Yes, the files I am using are in mpeg2 format. Did I understand it right that the conversion to DVD format still wiil take several hours? Any other format that I could use to burn it faster? Thanks again.

Just to clarify... I think your MPEG-2 files may be hi-def, which is not DVD compliant, and they must be re-coded. I believe this does take longer than transcoding from AVI/DV or than re-encoding standard-definition MPEG-2. Standard DVDs are 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL) and they have a lower bitrate than the files from your hi-def camera.Yes, the files I am using are in mpeg2 format. If it's DVD-compatible MPEG-2, then you can check the box that says Do Not Convert Compliant MPEGs, and it won't need any conversion.
