No Printer button on Page Setup dialog box

Post by jblotner »

Hi,

I recently got a new computer, with Windows Vista. I used my wife's existing CD to install Paint Shop Pro 7 (from 2001 - yikes!). It seems fine, except for a few of the preferences. The BIG problem is that the [Printer] button on the Page Setup dialog no longer appears! Here's the verbiage from the PaintShopPro7 user guide:

...
6 To surround the image with a color, click the Background button. When the Color dialog box opens, choose the color. The area of the paper from the image edge to the paper margin will be covered with this color.

7 Click the Printer button to open the printer.

8 Click OK to close the dialog box and save the settings.
...

It's #7 that is no longer accurate. Has anyone seen this problem? Any recommended solutions?

Thanks,
Joe

PSP7 was released waaaay before Vista, so it is not going to work correctly on a Vista machine. Are you running it under compatibility mode for XP?

Part of the problems incurred with running older programs on Vista, is certain drivers needed, that may be supported or available on XP or older, however are not with Vista.

Thanks, Ron. That's what I was afraid of. How can I tell if I'm running it under compatibility mode for XP?

Thanks,
Joe

Try right clicking the shortcut icon used to launch PSP and in the list select "properties" - a dialog box will appear with a tab for "compatibility" check to see what settings are in effect.

I've got a similar problem. I installed PSP 8.1 on my new Vista powered computer. I have two printers set up on my computer. However, PSP only recognizes the one selected as the default printer.

Is there any way to resolve this problem?

All versions of Paint Shop Pro, except X2, have no button to choose a printer when run on Vista. This includes copies of X and XI that have had their respective patches added. The only workaround is to temporarily change the printer you want to use, to be the Windows default.

It makes no sense! It is there a way to force PSP XI to have a printer button in Windows 7? Or at least to manually add the other printers, maybe by manually editing the registry?
