MSP 7 "Failed to open the MPEG encoder"

Post by rojcope »

I've just reinstalled MSP 7 following a system replacement and whenever I attempt to create an MPEG for DVD-PAL from the timeline I get the error "failed to open the MPEG decoder".

Using DVD Movie Factory 2 to render MPEG from AVI also fails (no specific error).

Installing the latest SP does not fix this and neither does uninstalling and reinstalling.

I assume I need to re-register some components by hand but have no idea which ones. Can anyone help?

Hi Roger,

I've busted my O/S more than one and have had to reinstall the software and haven't seen this.

Have you tried the MF2. SE to make a disc?

Yep. MF2 fails after having re-rendered the AVI file. Because this takes so long I've only done it once. I think the re-rendering is because for some reason MF2 thinks my AVI is NTSC and 'converts' it to PAL. I've no evidence that MF2 is rendering the MPEG before failing.

When it was installed previously, MF2 worked fine (though I typically create the MPEG from MSP and just cut the disk using MF2).

I probably should add that although I rebuilt my client OS, I'm in a networked environment, my registry/profile is roaming and therefore was not created from scratch by the reinstallation.

Hi,

Wish I could help, but nothing to offer here.

Does the output (avi or mpeg) seem to be in specification?

After saying in my last message that I was using an existing roaming profile following the OS rebuild, it occurred to me that I could try creating a new user account/profile and seeing if the problem was there too. It wasn't.

So I zapped my old profile and started from scratch and am now running again :)

Thanks for your help Mike
